RegionsPowerball continues to grow over $400m
Published: January 1, 2025
The possibility of a Christmas miracle granting someone a $400m prize has passed, but a new opportunity for $416m arises. A string of numbers was drawn, with the number three as the Powerball.
The Power Play was 3x, and, despite millions of tickets in circulation, no one made correct guesses. Although no one struck gold, a few players across the US have many reasons to celebrate.
Based on the information on the website, six Powerball players from South Carolina, California and Tennessee matched five balls each. It brought them exactly $1m.
Moreover, twenty-eight players won $50,000 each, guessing four numbers. Four players come from New York, and they purchased a Power Play to triple their winnings.
Furthermore, 668 players matched four balls to score $100, while 160 won $300 via a Power Play. The jackpot grew since October 2025, when a player from California grabbed nearly $700m. There was an option of a $700m-annuity over 29 years in thirty installments or a one-time payment of $496m.
The hugest sum ever won was a whopping $1.586bn, snatched by three tickets in 2016. Should anyone win the jackpot now, the instant cash payout could reach about $300m. However, it won’t be easy since the odds are 1 in 292.2 million.
In addition, Powerball is not the sole option for big wins, with the Mega Millions lottery draw reaching $201m. The cash option amounts to $144m, with the last big prize being $108m, paid out in October 2025 in Arizona.
Before that, several players won $516m in May. The record was set in January when a group of players from Michigan won $1.05bn.
About Powerball
Powerball is a US lottery game that allows players to score big wins while raising money for noble lottery-supported goals. First established in 1992, Powerball set the jackpot record in 2016, with $1,586bn shared among winners in Florida, Tennessee and California.
Powerball tickets cost $2 per play and sell across 45 states in the US. For an additional $1, players can utilize the Power Play option to multiply their non-jackpot prizes 2-10x. Prizes can be paid out as a lump sum or in 30 payments over 29 years.
