Rise of the Genie Review
Oriental slots have become commonplace in the iGaming industry long ago, always a great option when you lack ideas. They have a dose of mystique and inherent originality that will always intrigue the punters.
Many providers attempt to develop games that will differ from the majority of such slots, but most do not succeed. iSoftBet has made Rise of the Genie, which has a different approach from the rest, although it is far from the best Asian game ever created.
There was an excellent chance to think outside the box and deliver a fantastic playing experience. However, many drawbacks prevent it from being a relevant title, as you will see.
- Medium volatility with a maximum win of 500x the bet
- Five paylines
- Prize Ladders, Cash Pot, Instant Pays and Evil Genie
The graphics are sharp and crisp, but they have a retro feel, with animations that are not so polished. Still, it is a good-looking slot with a captivating traditional soundtrack completing a highly respectable audio-visual presentation.
Several non-conventional features make decent gameplay but are not utilized as well as they could have been. If they were put to good use, we would have one of the industry’s most memorable slots in recent months.
This way, it is a solid game that provides entertainment for a short while but is a wasted opportunity. Unfortunately, the creators could have handled some aspects a lot better.
Theme, Graphics and Sounds
Albeit not the most immersive graphics you have ever seen, the visuals in Rise of the Genie are more than fitting for the theme. Various purple shades dominate the grid with the help of other colours, making a lively and vivid appearance.
The fittingly traditional Oriental tune follows it, putting you in the middle of the action. We have already seen similar slots, but Rise of the Genie does a good job presenting itself. While not the top category on any list, it is not unpleasant to look at.
It is a small-time, unassuming slot that could have been a lot better with a few changes. iSoftBet has missed an excellent opportunity to provide a online slot for the books.
There is a 3×3 grid on the left side of the screen with the ladders on the right. The win ladders let you pick whether to collect the money you have won and start over or carry on climbing. If you continue, you risk the evil Genie stealing all your cash.
The three ladders show how much each step is worth. Three various symbols in three colours make the paytable. Grab a win by landing two or three icons of the same colour on a payline.
Each win on any of the ladders is gathered in a Cash Pot you can opt to collect at any time. Climb the ladders to score bigger wins, but if the Genie shows up, he will snatch the entire loot.
The left ladder pays up to 50x the stake, the right one up to 120x, while the maximum for the middle one is 500x the bet. A Flower is a low-pay symbol that pays one to four steps on the left ladder, and a Book is a mid-tier that gives 1-4 steps on the right.
Moreover, Genie’s Lamp is the most lucrative symbol, providing one to four steps on the middle ladder, depending on the colour and number of the icons. The Wild symbol is golden and purple and turns up on the middle reel.
In-game features
The features include Prize Ladders, Cash Pot, Instant Pays and Evil Genie.
Prize Ladders
The left and the right ladder have eight steps each, while the middle has twelve. We have already established the maximum payouts for each of them. The wins are acquired in the Instant Pays feature.
Cash Pot
The Cash Pot is located below the ladders, and it preserves all the loot you have won from all of them. When you collect them, the ladders will be reset, and you will start climbing again. Going to the top triggers, the Instant Pays feature.
Instant Pays
Once you get to the top, you must collect the Instant Pays before spinning again. If the players collect the Cash Pot simultaneously, all ladders will be reset, but if they collect only the Instant Pays, the ladder will remain on top, with a chance to land a new prize.
Every step on a full ladder pays 2,5x, 6x and 25x the bet, respectively. Furthermore, if you hit the same icon in red on all fields, you will win the maximum payout for each ladder.
Evil Genie
The Genie can be triggered randomly on any spin and take all the money you have not collected. The Cash Pot is empty, and the player starts again.
From time to time, he flashes through a spin without showing up again. You have to worry only when it appears completely and snatches your loot while laughing.

RTP, bet sizes and volatility
The game’s RTP amounts to 96.46%, surpassing the industry average. In addition, the hit frequency stands at 24.8%, meaning almost every fourth spin should be a win.
The wagering scope is narrow, ranging from $0.20 to $20, attracting mainly penny-pinchers and casual players. A low degree of risk and a miserable maximum win of 500x the stake will turn off most high rollers.
Rise of the Genie has medium volatility, promising decent payouts at reasonably regular intervals without turning too exciting. It is a mildly entertaining game with some originality regarding the gameplay but has too little to offer otherwise.
Verdict
Rise of the Genie is interesting but is a typical example of too-little-too-late. It offers a fairly innovative approach but does not follow it up with lucrative payouts. The betting range is too narrow, and the maximum payout is, to say the least, mediocre.
iSoftBet did not try too hard to satisfy its punters, providing an average slot that will not maintain anyone’s attention for long. We rate it 3 out of 5 stars.
