RegionsCanadian Gaming Association and IBIA Join Forces
Published: March 13, 2025
With the online gambling market launch in Ontario approaching, the Canadian Gaming Association (CGA) has inked a Memorandum of Understanding with the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA).
This move aims to secure a framework that provides conditions for cooperation between the two parties. CGA and IBIA should also coordinate on iGaming and betting integrity to protect consumers and the market from fraudulent activities.
Members of IBIA are some of the most important names in the world of sports betting. The organization has been recently certified by the provincial Alcohol and Gaming Commission as an integrity monitor.
Once the market opens on April 4, all operators doing business in Ontario will have to be a part of a monitoring system.
Many online casinos are members of both IBIA and CGA, which is the main reason why the two entities decided to partner. We expect to see new cooperative projects in the future and close cooperation in areas of interest.
Such projects will include various activities, from promoting mutual integrity interests to forming a sustainable regulated market.
Following the changes to the Federal Criminal Code, single-event sports betting finally became available to Canadians. At the same time, the new offering requires additional regulatory oversight.
Paul Burns, President and CEO of the Canadian Gaming Association, said:
IBIA will be one of only a handful of sports integrity monitors recognized by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario for licensed operators, and we believe there is great value in deepening our relationship with the organization. As the CGA looks ahead to the opening of Ontario’s iGaming market and the expansion of sports betting products and services across Canada in 2025, the protection of athletes and integrity of sports betting is a key priority.
