DraftKings Receives Ontario Licence
Published: May 17, 2025
DraftKings’ licence application has been greenlighted more than a month after Ontario launched its regulated online gambling market. The US operator is now officially registered with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.
The company’s application is the 37th one to receive provincial approval, although some operators like SkillOnNet and Entain received multiple applications as they launched more than one Ontario online casino.
But, DraftKings is the only twelfth operator to receive a two-year licence, as all others, excluding the provincial lottery, have been given a one-year approval.
The operator’s absence was evident when the provincial market launched on April 4. In the meantime, a number of new online casinos were approved, but DraftKings was still waiting to submit its application.
The list of operators which secured licences before launch day includes such reputable names as Unibet, BetRivers, theScore, PointsBet, LeoVegas, 888 Casino, Bet365, Bwin, BetMGM, FanDuel, and Caesars.
Earlier this month, the company’s CEO, Jason Robins, confirmed the operator would go live with an online casino in Ontario, although no specific date was mentioned.
The launch of the market in Ontario came after nearly three years of preparation to introduce a licencing system and put an end to the monopoly of the provincial lottery.
The plans were initially revealed in April 2019, while final online gaming and betting standards were published in September last year. These standards limited game design and required operators to become part of an integrity body.
