Casinos in Ontario Close Amidst Reintroduced Restrictions
Casinos, bingo halls and other gaming venues across Ontario have closed again. Premier Doug Ford confirmed the news, saying the restrictions will be reinstated from January 5, 2025, for at least twenty-one days.
The reimposition of limited measures has occurred due to recent trends displaying a dramatic surge in COVID-19 hospitalizations. Ontario looks to prevent hospitals from being overcrowded while accelerating its efforts to roll out as many booster doses as possible.
The authorities in the province explore every option to impede the spreading of the Omicron variant. This virus proved highly contagious, and Ontario does not want to take risks. They make great efforts to deliver vaccines to everyone, and the newly-introduced restrictive measures will help.

They serve to ensure everyone is fully protected from this enormously dangerous virus, as they provide more time for everyone to be vaccinated. However, the mentioned measures do not affect gaming establishments only.
Other implemented measures include limiting social gatherings, as well as organized public events, to five people indoors and ten outdoors. Organizations and businesses are required to enable their employees to work remotely whenever possible.
Additionally, many measures are introduced regarding outdoor establishments, with numerous closures among indoor hospitality objects.
The entire province changed its way of life, but everyone hopes it will go without consequences, for this is not the first time. The people of Ontario have already demonstrated exquisite bravery and discipline.
Car and horse racing tracks will have their indoor areas closed, while the outdoor spaces will be open with limited capacity. The restrictions include obligatory reservations, limiting the number of spectators to 50% of seating capacity, etc.
If you need to enter a facility with a capacity of 20,000+ places, you will need proof of vaccination. While everyone hopes for these measures to be short-lived, they are necessary so that everyone can receive a required booster dose.
Commenting on the new measures, Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, said:
As cases continue to rise at a rapid rate and evidence on the Omicron variant evolves, additional time-limited measures are needed to help limit transmission as Team Ontario continues to get booster doses into arms. While this was not an easy decision, these measures will help preserve hospital bed capacity and prevent our hospitals from becoming overwhelmed.
