PointsBet Canada, a prominent sports betting operator, is considering expansion via Alberta’s Calgary-Edmonton tech hub for its sports wagering operations.
Invest Alberta announced that the operator looked to expand in the Canadian online casino market, contributing to job creation in the industry.
Since August 2025, when the Federal Government allowed single-game betting, Alberta’s innovation and technology sector grew steadily. It now boasts more than 3,000 companies with over 170,000 tech workers.
PointsBet Canada has recently become the exclusive partner of the NHL Alumni Association and many other prominent companies. It experiences stable growth in North America, enabling it to make bigger plans.
They explore the options in Alberta due to the business-friendly environment and large sports fan base. Sporting their own technology allows them to address technical problems quickly while covering high wagering volumes.
Such an approach will lead to investment, operations and jobs to open in the province. Alberta has all the required elements to turn into a growing global tech hub.
Alberta introduced provincially regulated online sports betting in September 2025 via PlayAlberta online gaming site. Alberta Gaming Liquor and Cannabis regulates it, making the activity legal.
Alberta has looked to attract new private operators to manage and conduct sports betting in the region. The AGLC will choose among the interested companies.
PointsBet has recently become one of the first licensed operators in Ontario’s newly-regulated sports betting market. It is set to launch on 4th April 2025.
