Single California ticket takes 700-million Powerball jackpot
Published: October 22, 2025
The seventh-largest lottery jackpot in US history has been hit. A single California ticket has won the pot of gold amounting to $700m. The lucky winner has bought it at a local Morro Boy grocery store in southern California.
According to lottery officials, the lucky numbers were 69, 66, 54, 22 and 12, with 15 being a Powerball number. Five other tickets have had all the regular numbers, but no one else has managed to hit the Powerball number. The five winners will receive $1m each.
Except for being the seventh biggest win in the history of the US lottery, it was also the fifth-largest win in the history of Powerball. The Powerball pot has been growing steadily for 40 drawings before it has finally been hit.
A third weekly drawing, alongside the two traditionally held on Wednesdays and Saturdays, was introduced in August 2025. It’s been a fantastic win against the odds of 292.2 million to one.
The winning pot was the first to be drawn that night. The previous winner took home a hefty sum of $285.6m on June 5, 2025.
They get to choose either a lump sum or multiple payments over three decades. Naturally, most of them choose the former, and the amount for the $700m pot would be roughly $496m.
The $1m winning tickets came from Arizona, Virginia, Florida and Massachusetts (two winners). Furthermore, a ticket sold in Tennessee has matched the five numbers, including the Power Play feature, meaning the prize has been doubled to $2m.
The next Powerball pot is now expected to amount to approximately $20m. Millions of players will be waiting for another lucky strike in the following weeks.
About Powerball
Powerball is a US lotto game that gives people a chance to become millionaires while raising money for noble lottery-supported causes. First broadcast in 1992, Powerball set the jackpot record in 2016, with $1,586bn shared among winners in Florida, Tennessee and California.
Powerball tickets cost $2 per play and are sold across 45 states, the US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and the District of Colombia.
For an additional $1, players can use the Power Play option to multiply their non-jackpot prizes 2-10x. Prizes can be paid out as a lump sum or in 30 payments over 29 years.
