Castle of Terror Review
Do you fancy yourself a brave soul? If so, rumours exist of a remote castle far from any towns or cities. It is occupied by some old-fashioned folks and is said to be the site of a grand treasure. Soon after arriving, you may discover you are out of your element.
Instead of hunting for treasure, you are the one being hunted! Big Time Gaming’s Castle of Terror is an exciting vampire-themed online slot that pits you against the relentless bloodsuckers. You will need luck and holy water to survive and leave the keep without bite marks on your neck.

- Highly volatile slot game with a top prize worth 61,720x your stake
- 4,096 ways to win
- Holy Water, Free Spins, Enhanced Free Spins and Win Exchange
The developer’s art team does a great job of bringing the game’s world to life. Sound design is also integral to selling the atmosphere and helping keep you immersed.
Available extra features are thematic and incredibly entertaining. None of the bonuses are brand new for Big Time Gaming, but the team combines them in a unique way here. The fun gameplay and bonuses will keep you glued to your screen.
Theme, Graphics and Sounds
The graphics are one of the most significant advantages Castle of Terror has over its competition. The background changes from day to night, and you even get to see inside the castle during the bonuses.
Getting the sound and music to match all these changes was difficult, but the art team got it down without a hitch. Tying visual changes to extra features makes the bonuses feel rewarding. It helps each one has good winning potential and is fun to play.
You play this release on a 6×4 grid with 4,096 ways to win. Winning requires landing at least three matching symbols in adjacent positions, starting with the leftmost reel. Symbol designs include playing card royals, a gardener, a maid, the lord, and the lady.
We wrote this review based on a preview, meaning the payouts are not finalized. However, playing card royals will be the lower value symbols while the vampires will be the higher paying icons. The two castle symbols are Scatters, while the golden W is a Wild.
In-game features
Castle of Terror has many standout bonuses to entertain its players. Available features include Holy Water, Free Spins, Enhanced Free Spins, Win Exchange, and Bonus Buy.
Holy Water
Holy Water can randomly trigger and hit vampire symbols on the board. It only activates on the centre four reels. Affected vampire icons temporarily become Wild and increase the win multiplier for that spin by one. Additionally, their symbol design also shifts from their human disguise into their menacing vampire form.
Free Spins & Enhanced Free Spins
Both bonuses require landing three Scatters to activate twelve free spins. Standard Free Spins accept any three Scatters. For Enhanced Free Spins, one of the triggering Scatters must be the golden castle Megascatter. Every Scatter past the initial three grants three more free spins.
During both free spins bonuses, Holy Water happens every round. During Free Spins, the win multiplier starts at one and increases by one for each vampire affected by Holy Water. Meanwhile, Enhanced Free Spins start the win multiplier at two and increase it by two for each vampire exposed to Holy Water
You receive six more free spins if the win multiplier reaches a multiple of twenty.
Bonus Buy
Bonus Buy allows you to skip manually activating the free spins bonuses. 12 Free Spins cost 70x your stake, while 12 Enhanced Free Spins will set you back 200x your bet.
Win Exchange
Win between 25x and 100x your total stake, and you can exchange your prize for a chance at winning ten free spins. The game spins a wheel; if the arrow lands in green, you win the free spins.
If you win 100x or more, you can trade it in for guaranteed ten free spins. The gamble then becomes if you get regular or Enhanced Free Spins.
RTP, bet sizes, and volatility
Castle of Terror’s RTP is 96.73%. That places it comfortably above average when compared to other video slots. The game’s hit frequency is unknown.
Big Time Gaming set the bet limits to $0.20 to $15. This release comes with very high volatility, which can produce fantastic prizes. How fantastic? Castle of Terror’s jackpot is 61,720x your total stake.
A lucrative reward for those bold enough to challenge this high-variance game. Looking for a real money casino to play this slot? Then be sure to check out an Interac casino!
