Thunderstruck II Review
Ever wanted to meet the mighty Asgards!? This impressive online slot from Microgaming provides you with the opportunity to do just that.
Behold the mighty Thor, dance with the breathtaking Valkyrie, and take care not to fall foul of Loki.
Introducing:
- Wildstorm Feature transforms entire reels into wilds
- Great Hall of Spins with four sets of free spins
- Free spins loaded with bonus features such as multipliers and rolling reels
Microgaming’s Thunderstruck II video slot is hailed as one of the most popular slots of all time and is an impressive follow-up to the original game.
This immersive slot gives you an introduction to Norse mythology. Will it leave you feeling as if you have indeed journeyed and battled ferociously alongside the mighty Asgards? Let’s take a peek and see what’s on offer.
Themes, graphics, and sounds
As with the original Thunderstruck video slot, this sequel from Microgaming features a Norse mythology theme that takes you through the hall of the gods, Valhalla.
This version has received an impressive upgrade in animation and graphics, and, for me, the soundtrack is phenomenal.
Thor steals the show, but Odin, Loki, and Valkyrie all feature alongside awe-inspiring longships and numerous other symbols depicting Norse mythology.
You can create winning combinations by landing 3, 4, or 5 matching symbols on consecutive reels starting from the first reel. Thor, for example, appears in any position, on reels 1, 2 and 3.
Immortal Romance, featuring a vampire theme and using the same game engine, is very similar but has been described as more volatile.
In-game features
As well as the gods, the reels include playing cards and Viking longship images. The standard symbol that offers the best rewards is Thor; land on five, and you’ll receive 16.67x your total stake.
Scatters
The Thunderstruck 2 logo is the wild symbol, and when it is part of a win, Thor will double the payout you receive. It substitutes for all other symbols except for Thor’s hammer, which is the scatter.
Five wilds on a pay line will give you 33.33 times your stake; this is also the case if you get 4 Thor symbols and a wild. Remember that the symbols must match from left to right.
If you land 2 of Thor’s Hammer scatter symbols anywhere in view, you will receive 1 x your stake.
Wildstorm
The Wildstorm feature is triggered randomly, and if it activates, Thor will impress you by using lightning bolts to transform between 1 and 5 reels into wild reels; this could give you a win up to 8,000 times your total stake.
Thunderstruck II Free Spins
Welcome to The Great Hall of Spins; this is what Thunderstruck II is all about, and to access these features, you need to get 3,4 or 5 Thor’s Hammer scatters anywhere in view; the rewards will be 2, 20, or 200 times your stake.
There are a variety of features available once you trigger this feature a certain number of times. There is a progress bar that will tell you how many times you have made it into the great hall.
All the additional bonus chances you trigger in the Great Hall will offer you various free features, including multipliers, transforming symbols, and rolling reels.
The bonus features are:
- Valkyrie – ten spins with a 5x multiplier, and you could win up to 1,383x your stake
- Loki – 15 spins with Wild Magic feature, and up to 8,000x your stake
- Odin – 20 free spins, Wild Raven feature, 6x multiplier, and 3,320x your stake wins for each free spin
- Thor – 25 spins with the Rolling Reels feature, increasing multipliers up to 5x, and the max win per free spin is 1,383x your stake.

Verdict
Thunderstruck II may be old, but for us, it’s an absolute favorite.
It provides a fantastic variety of awesome features, a great soundtrack, and great value for a small stakes player.
It’s a shame it does not include any progressive jackpots, but you can’t have it all; it gets a 4 out of 5 stars from us.
