Treasure Pirates Review
Pirate slots are becoming increasingly popular across the industry, with the providers trying to create games as exciting as possible. It is an appropriate theme for slots, for punters also want to grab the loot and take it home; the trick is to develop game players will like.
Treasure Pirates from Boomerang Studios is a feature-rich game that does not go much beyond its provider’s standard set of features.
There are nice touches and engaging moments, but the game is not without problems. The result is a mixed bag with enough good points to recommend the game, but we hope the following efforts will be more appealing.
- Medium volatility with a maximum payout of 5,000x the bet
- 243 paylines
- Coin&Collect symbols, Roaming Sea, and Free Spins
The graphics are crisp and sharp but not as spectacular as they could be, with the cartoonish style fitting the game’s offbeat style. Additionally, it has an epic soundtrack appropriate for the theme, but there have been better tunes in the iGaming world.
The entire online slot has a frustrating vibe that it is pretty good but could have been better. Pirates have always been an exciting topic, and it is nice to have games dealing with it. However, we cannot help feeling that a few tweaks here and there would have created a much better game.
It is far from bad, but it does not reach its full potential. We are not talking only about money, for 5,000x the stake is not a bad maximum win.
Theme, Graphics and Sounds
The graphics resemble a 90s cartoon, which is always good, turning up the nostalgia factor. The background is aboard a ship with a big sail for a grid. It is an exciting idea to fill the entire screen with it, but maybe the space could have been used a bit better.
Moreover, the soundtrack is nice and catchy, properly fitting the theme and following the adventure players are in. It is always great to play a good pirate game, but some finishing touches are missing.
Still, Treasure Pirates is a decent time-killer that will get you through a rainy Sunday afternoon just fine. It may not make you financially independent, but its payouts will not harm you for sure.
The action takes place on a classic 5×3 grid with 243 paylines and engaging features that keep the game entertaining all the time. Landing three to five matching symbols on adjacent reels will help you grab your wins.
The lower end of the paytable belongs to a Map, a Sword, a Flag, and Binoculars, all of which pay mediocre amounts. They will grant you 0.75x-1x the stake for a combination of five.
Furthermore, premium symbols include a Chest, a Cannon, and a Parrot that pay 1.25x-2.5x the bet for the same string.
Special symbols are a Pirate Wild that replaces all the regulars and a Ship Scatter that triggers the Bonus round. Finally, Coin and Collect icons are used for the Hold&Win features.
In-game features
This feature-rich release includes the Collect feature, Hold&Respin, Side Strike, Roaming Sea, and Free Spins.
Collect
The Coin symbol comes in twelve different values, eleven of which has the range 1x-25x the stake, with the last that amounts to 888x.
In addition, the Collect symbol triggers the Collect feature when it lands simultaneously with the Coin. When it happens, all the values are collected and awarded to players.
Hold&Respin
When six Coin symbols hit the grid, they trigger the Hold & Respin feature, where Coins remain locked, and other symbols are removed.
You will have three respins, and any time you land a Coin, the tally will reset to three. Moreover, the Collect symbol will award the sums, and punters will start again with an empty board. The session finishes when the grid is full, or there are no more spins.
Side Strike
It is a side bet where you lay a wager on a red or green chip, with the former appearing on reel one and the latter on five.
You can receive money if two chips turn up on both sides (1x the stake), one or two more chips of your colour appear (2x and 5x the bet). Pick your bet and its size, with regular winning combos not affecting the Side Strike.
Roaming Sea
When a Scatter lands on the grid, it starts roaming due to the feature that selects a new position on the board and frames it.
Only the Wild, the Parrot, and the Coin symbols can land inside it, with the same icon appearing on each spin.
There is a roaming position for every Ship, meaning four of them can be in the Bonus round. The feature stays on for the duration of the Free Spins.
Free Spins
When the fourth Scatter lands, you will receive five spins that are impossible to retrigger, with four Roaming Sea frames changing symbols. Everything is over after five spins when you start collecting new Scatters to activate the round.

RTP, bet sizes and volatility
The game’s RTP stands at 96.46%, going above the industry standard. The hit frequency is still unknown, but it should be relatively decent, given the parameters.
Numerous betting options range from $0.20 to $40, promising attractive opportunities for penny-pinchers and casual players. The max bet could turn off high rollers, but a solid maximum payout might lure them back.
Treasure Pirates has medium volatility, indicating decent wins at regular intervals. Not many adrenaline-inducing sequences are in store for you, but the maximum win of 5,000x the stake sounds alright.

Verdict
There is a beautiful game to be found somewhere between a plethora of features and mediocre payouts in the base game. The game goes one step back for every two steps forward, finishing barely above average.
Fast-paced and engaging gameplay cannot make up for the lack of thrills. Increasing the potential a little bit would not hurt the game at all. It is good, but it should have been better. We rate it 3 out of 5 stars.
