Wacky Panda Review
Sometimes, keeping it simple is the best option. However, there is such a thing as too simple. Does Wacky Panda fall in this category, or will its charm save it?
- Three reels, one payline
- No special features
- Cute East Asian art style
East Asia has become a huge economic power in recent years. As such, we are not surprised to see software providers seeking to get their citizens as customers.
Wacky Panda clearly borrows from the cartoony anime style that is becoming popular globally.
While the online slot looks nice, we have to wonder if that is enough to carry it. Unlike so many other games, this one has no special features!
Theme, Graphics and Sounds
If you like cute pandas doing cute things, this is definitely your type of release! The background image is static, depicting a peaceful forest.
We can see regular and bamboo trees growing near a waterfall. It looks pretty by itself. It would look even better if a few animations were added in!
Overall, we feel good about the visuals. They are okay, but they could be better.
We wish we could say the same thing about landing wins. You play Wacky Panda on a three-reel, three-row playing field.
This would not be so bad, except you only get one payline. This makes scoring wins incredibly difficult.
The game mitigates this by allowing one symbol to pay even if only one or two land on the payline.
The rest need three matching icons in adjacent spots, starting with the leftmost reel.
In-game features
Honestly, we cannot believe that there are no special features at all.
There used to be a time when this was standard. However, that has not been the case for almost ten years now.
The absence of any bonuses is something you will immediately feel as you play. Combined with this slot only having one payline, the effect is immediate.
You will feel bored out of your mind in fifteen minutes or less.

RTP, bet sizes and volatility
The RTP for this game is 95.94%. This is very slightly below the current 96% average. The variance is medium.
If this was a better release, we might forgive this. With the lack of special features and just one payline, we do not feel so generous.
Players can bet between $0.01 and $15 on each spin. This is a good spread of bets, considering you only get one payline.
We suggest having all three coins active, as that allows you to land the biggest possible prize.
The top prize you can win in this release is 3333 coins. This is granted for a three-of-a-kind panda with a watermelon hat win.

Verdict
We could definitely see this slot being popular under different circumstances.
Having five paylines instead of one would let Microgaming keep their three-reel setup without it feeling boring.
Even a plain free spins bonus would give us something to look forward to. However, this game has none of those things. Add onto that a substandard RTP and no information for variance?
We cannot give the release more than 2 out of 5 stars. If the developer is serious about expanding east, it will need to do a better job.
