Katmandu Gold Review
Gold awaits you high up in the Nepalese mountains!
Katmandu Gold offers:
- Stunning visuals
- A great soundtrack
- Innovative features
Katmandu Gold is created by Elk Studios and follows four other successful games in their Gold series. In this review you will find out if Katmandu Gold is up to par to its predecessors!
Theme, Graphics, and Sounds
The name of the game refers to the capital city of Nepal named Kathmandu. Kathmandu is located at the foot of the Himalayan Mountains and it is often called the city of temples.
The main character of this online slot, the adventurer Kane, is tired of traveling the world searching for hold, so he goes in Nepal to find his peace. There, he comes across a gold temple.
The 6-reel slot is set between two detailed pillars, with a huge temple in the background. On both side of the pillars, you can see fortress walls and snowy slopes.
Through the distant sky covered with cloud, the sun is peeking. A mystical and enchanting soundtrack plays in the background.
The symbols include 4 elements icons, A, K, Q and J royals, dragons, tigers and falcons dripped in gold, as well as the adventurer Kane himself.
The graphics and the setting are impeccable in this game, and it may be the best atmosphere from all of the Gold slots.
In-game Features
When you land a winning combination, you activate the Avalanche feature. All the winning symbols disappear and leave space for an avalanche of new symbols.
Every avalanche win will also add an extra row to the grid, and you can win up to 8 rows.
A regular symbol in the game takes up a 1×1 space, while big symbols range from 2×2 up to 4×4 in size, and this is known as the Big Symbol feature.
Gold Arrow
Any regular symbol or wild can randomly have a gold arrow attached to it, and the arrow can point in a different direction.
When this symbol is a part of a winning combination, you activate the Expanding Win feature.
Then, the Expanding Win symbol will expand in the direction of the arrow, replacing the symbols in the path, except bonus symbols, Ice Climber Symbols, and wilds.
Ice Climber
When the yin yang symbol lands two times anywhere on the reels, it activates the Ice Climber feature.
Each symbol below these symbols will become a wild, while all symbols above the yin yang will turn into a wild or a high paying symbol.
If you triggered the Ice Climber feature on the 8th row, a 9th row is added, meaning you’ll play with 531,441 ways to win.
Buy Bonus
To unlock the regular bonus buy feature, you need to spend 100x your stake. This will ensure that 3 to 6 scatters automatically land on the next drop.
To unlock the Buy Super Bonus which will start your win multiplier at 10x, you need to spend 500x your bet.
Katmandu Gold Free Spins
When you land at least 3 scatters anywhere on the grid, you activate the Multiplier Free Drops feature.
For three, four, five or six scatter symbols, you’ll receive 10, 15, 20 or 25 free spins respectively.
During this round, you can retrigger more spins, and every bonus symbol that will land will activate the Multiplier feature.
Each time a bonus symbol appears, the multiplier value is increased by 1.

The bet size is between $0.20 to $100 per spin.
The game’s RTP is 96.2%, but it rises to 96.3% when you use the feature Buy Bonus.
When you use Buy Superbonus, the RTP increases even more, to 96.4%.
The maximum win is 10,000x your stake.
The volatility of 7 out of 10 isn’t bad, when you consider the multiple features and the large potential wins.
Verdict
Katmandu Gold takes the whole Gold series to a new level, with its maximum win potential of 10,000x your stake.
On top of that there is the bonus round with a progressive multiplier, and the Ice Climber which turns rows into premium and wilds.
