Lava Gold Review
Long before humans would evolve into our modern form, the world was ruled by a much different species. Dinosaurs dominated prehistoric times. Large, lizard-like creatures that ranged from small and agile to massive and dangerous.
They soared through the skies, swam in the water, and could run across the land. It would take a massive natural disaster to bring the dinosaurs down. Can they avoid their untimely demise in this Betsoft slot?
- Low variance with a 158.92x jackpot
- Cluster pays with unique cascading reels mechanic
- Fill the Lava Meter to activate free spins
Have you ever wished to go back to a time before time? Our world much different millions of years ago, and Lava Gold captures that perfectly.
The visuals are some of the best Betsoft has ever produced! Plenty of attention has been given to the gameplay loop, as well.
The game’s low variance means its few bonuses come up quite often and can create exciting scenarios. This is helped with the inclusion of cascading reels, cluster wins, and a free spins round.
Theme, Graphics and Sounds
We love the background image in this online slot. The scenery it depicts is magnificent. We see these huge mountains and massive trees. Miles of the jungle without any civilisation stopping it.
Then, standing tall above everything else is this massive volcano that is just about to blow. Animations complete the visuals and make them look even better.
Smoke slowly rises from the top of the volcano. The wind blows, carrying leaves across the screen. We can also see a few dinosaurs flying around from time to time.
You play this release on a five-reel, five-row board with cluster pays instead of traditional paylines. Wins are granted by finding five identical symbols next to one another.
Winning icons can be vertically or horizontally adjacent but not diagonally. The largest possible winning cluster is twenty-five symbols.
In-game features
As we mentioned previously, the slot is home to a cascading reels system. However, it does not work as most cascading reels do.
Winning clusters are removed from the board. However, instead of existing icons falling down, they are duplicated into empty positions.
It can seem a bit confusing until you first see it in action. The result is the same, in the end. It allows multiple consecutive wins to occur for the price of a single spin.
Symbols duplicating into adjacent empty positions continue until no more winning clusters are available. Alternatively, the icon duplication may also end if the grid ends up filled with just one symbol.
Lava Gold Free Spins
Unlocking free spins is done by filling the Lava Meter. The meter is filled by achieving winning clusters with each icon, starting from lowest to highest.
The meter does not reset between spins. However, you also have to follow the exact order. Scoring a flower symbol win will not count if you have not unlocked all the previous positions on the meter.
Once the meter is filled, players win ten free spins. During the bonus, the central column of icons on the grid will be identical, creating guaranteed wins.
The cascading reel mechanic described earlier is not active during free spins. Instead, each free spin is played with a corresponding multiplier.
Your first spin starts with a 1x multiplier, your second increases to 2x, and so on. Your final spin is played with a 10x multiplier.

RTP, bet sizes and volatility
The RTP for this game is 95.99%. This is almost identical to the current industry average for slots, which sits at 96%.
You can bet between $0.25 and $3.75 with every round. The progress of the Lava Meter is tied to your currently active bet.
This prevents players from progressing it on lower bets and then swapping to a higher stake to score bigger wins.
Lava Gold has a low variance and is primarily concerned with letting you have fun with its special features.
With bonuses being frequent, Betsoft could not make any big jackpots available in this release. That is why the top prize you can win in this title is 158.92x your total stake.

Verdict
Everyone loves winning big. That is part of what makes online slots so appealing! However, sometimes you just need a break.
You need a game with beautiful graphics and fun bonuses that can keep you entertained for hours. Betsoft wanted to deliver on this experience with Lava Gold.
We just don’t like the fact that it takes so long to activate the free spins and if you do, you can’t win a lot.
For those reasons we rate this title 2 out of 5 stars.
