RegionsBetway Secures Ontario License
Published: April 29, 2025
Betway has secured a license for an Ontario online casino, and according to the provincial Alcohol and Gaming Commission (AGCO), it will expire in two years.
The approval covers the Betway.ca domain and other related domain names for casino, live casino, sports, virtual sports, esports, etc.
Betway has become the thirtieth operator to receive the Ontario license since the newly regulated market kicked off on April 4. Names like theScore, United, BetRivers, 888 casino, LeoVegas, Bet365, PointsBet, Bwin, BetMGM, Fan Duel, and Caesars have secured their approval from day one.
The majority of these licenses are set to run for twelve months, while ten will run for two years.
According to the data provided by Morgan Stanley, Betway‘s online gambling and sports betting application was the most downloaded one in Ontario for the entire of 2025, followed by bet365.
As of February this year, Betway accounted for more than 30% of all casino app downloads in the country‘s most populous province.
Two weeks after the market launch, Betway‘s app still accounts for 5% of all downloads in April, even though the operator didn‘t secure a license. TheScore had taken advantage of that situation, with half of all app downloads in the province, with bet365 behind with 36%.
The new market in Ontario was launched after nearly three years of preparations, following the provincial authorities‘ announcement to end the lottery monopoly in early 2019. A year later, the necessary legislation was introduced, and final online betting and gaming standards were published in September 2025.
North America was the biggest market for Betway in 2025, generating $808.4 million in revenue. The operator‘s parent company, Super Group, reported an annual rise in revenue and net profit for the latest financial year.
