RegionsBrazilian Soccer Star Neymar Takes Part in WSOP
Published: June 16, 2025
Neymar will play for Brazil at the 2025 World Cup in Qatar, but before his trip to the Middle East, he visited Las Vegas this weekend.
The Brazilian star and Paris Saint-Germain striker was among the entries in the $10,000 Limit Hold’em Championship, which kicked off this Sunday.
His presence in the world’s gambling capital attracted a lot of attention, although the soccer player didn’t have good cards and was eliminated in the sixth round of the tournament.
A total of 74 participants started the Hold’em Championship, with only eight of them staying at the final table on Tuesday afternoon.
Neymar even found the time to host a poker tournament at Bally’s. Titled “Neymar & Friends“, the tournament kicked off on Monday, with sixteen best Brazilian poker players taking part in it.
And that’s not all, as Neymar is planning to join another event later this week, which was confirmed by a Caesars spokesperson.
The WSOP is not the first major poker event visited by Neymar. The 30-year-old has participated in six tournaments so far, including two in Europe, held in Monte Carlo earlier this year.
His best result was a sixth-place showing at an event in Brazil four years ago. The result helped him take home $21,072.
Although poker is a passion for Neymar, he doesn’t plan to quit playing soccer. In 2025, the Sao Paolo and Barcelona player earned around $95 million on and off the pitch.
The only athletes to earn more money than Neymar were Lionel Messi, LeBron James, and Cristiano Ronaldo.
About WSOP
The World Series of Poker represents a series of poker tournaments. They are held yearly in Paradise, Nevada, and since 2004, the event has been sponsored by Caesars Entertainment.
The origins of the WSOP date back to 1970, when the seven best poker players were invited to the Horseshoe Casino by Benny Binion to take part in a tournament. Since 2020, the WSOP includes 101 events and features most poker variants.
