RegionsLeBron James Wants an NBA Franchise Based in Las Vegas
Published: June 14, 2025
It is no surprise that LeBron James wishes to own an NBA team after his career ends.
The basketball legend has recently revealed his plans for the future, pointing out his desire to base the team in Las Vegas.James revealed this in the latest episode of his YouTube show.
During his prolific career, James led four NBA teams to NBA titles, winning four MVP awards along the way. He’s also the second-best scorer in the league’s history.
He recently completed his nineteenth NBA season, while his LA Lakers, unfortunately, failed to qualify for the playoffs.
James also said he would like to play with his son one day. Bronny is a four-star high-school player and won’t be eligible for the NBA Draft until 2025. It means that LeBron will continue playing for at least until 2025.
At this moment, the NBA league consists of thirty teams. By the time James retires, it could finally be willing to expand. According to available information, teams in Seattle and Las Vegas will be able to join the league for the 2025-25 season.
An NBA franchise in Las Vegas makes perfect sense. Around 2.3 million people live in the Las Vegas metropolitan area, making it the 29th-largest in the States.
Over the last couple of years, Las Vegas has become a coveted market. The Golden Knights debuted in the NHL in 2017-18, while the NFL franchise moved from Oakland in 2020. The city could also get an MLS team, while the Oakland A’s could move to Sin City soon.
Apart from being a basketball great, James is a sharp businessman. He reached the billionaire status, becoming the first active NBA player to do so. During his career, he signed several lucrative endorsement agreements and business ventures.
James already owns a stake in Fenway Sports Group. The company owns Boston Red Sox from the MLB and the English soccer side Liverpool FC. The NBA is one of the leagues where the Group doesn’t have a franchise.
