Banana Town Review
Classic retro games will never go out of fashion, and 8-bit games from the 80s will always have a special place in fans’ hearts. Donkey Kong was one of the arcade classics that became a smash hit in every incarnation and console.
The guys from Relax Gaming developed a game that utilizes the appeal of similar titles, hoping to revive punters’ nostalgia for their childhoods. This idea is not precisely fresh and new, but it is good.
Banana Town uses a Scatter pay system with cascades and Free Spins to provide decent payouts. This playful title will thoroughly entertain those who remember the games that inspired such releases.
- Highly volatile game with a maximum win of 10,000x the stake
- Scatter Pays
- Cascades, Progressive Multipliers, and Free Spins
The graphics are phenomenal and in tune with the mentioned 8-bit arcade classics from yesteryear. The animations of this online slot are not as polished as we are used to, and that is OK, for their task is to remind us of better times.
They do it successfully, cranking up the nostalgia factor with the special retro sound effects. Everything fits together in a magnificent audio-visual presentation that brings us down memory lane, delivering an unforgettable experience.
Who would not like to taste their childhood again, if only for a while? Banana Town makes it all possible, with the rest of similar games bringing us back to more carefree times.
Theme, Graphics and Sounds
The game heavily counts your nostalgic memories, instantly transporting you back to happier times. Everything resembles the beloved arcade classics we have enjoyed so much as kids, and kudos to the provider for that feeling.
The entire audio-visual aspect is precise as we like it, and we would not want it any other way. Other popular games also use the Scatter Pays mechanic, and Banana Town uses this recipe for success.
It cleverly utilizes the features to create an exciting atmosphere and bring you decent payouts. Slot enthusiasts and retro game lovers will enjoy the title immensely.
The action transpires on a 6×5 game board with no conventional paylines, but Scatter Pays are used to deliver wins. Land eight or more matching symbols anywhere on the grid to grab a win.
The lower end of the paytable consists of four pairs of Bananas in different colours, blue, green, red, and yellow. They grant 0.5x the bet for eight or nine symbols and 2-3x the stake for 12+ icons.
Additionally, five gangster Monkeys are premiums, paying 1-4x the bet for fewer symbols and 4-12x for more icons. Wilds are not used in the game, but Dollar Sign Scatters activate the Free Spins round.
Numerous winning opportunities are in store for the players that try this game at a Canadian online casino.
In-game features
Banana Town uses Cascades with progressive Multipliers, Free Spins, and the Bonus Buy feature to bring hefty wins.
Cascades
The Scatter Pays mechanic removes the winning symbols whenever 8+ matching icons land anywhere on the grid. Furthermore, new symbols fall from above and close the gaps.
The process repeats if a new win is formed, making combos until new wins stop appearing. Wins are then gathered by a meter on the right, with each winning icon enhancing the Multiplier. They start at x1, doubling after every symbol win up to x64.
Free Spins
Landing three Dollar Signs on the board brings you eight free spins, plus an extra spin for every additional Sign in view. An individual Sign adds a spin to the remaining total throughout the round.
Furthermore, each symbol’s Multiplier is persistent throughout the round, unlike the usual resetting type. You will have your wins gradually enhanced during the Bonus round.
Bonus Buy
When players do not want to wait for the Scatters to hit, they can buy the Free Spins round right away for 100x the bet. Before the round you bought begins, you can randomly increase the Multipliers.

RTP, bet sizes and volatility
The default RTP value is 96.12%, rising up to 96.16% when purchasing free spins, going slightly above the industry standard. However, with the hit frequency of 18.45%, it does not mean too much, for wins occur every five or six spins on average.
Numerous betting options are available, starting from the lowest bet at $0.10 and going up to $50. It will attract high rollers and modest players alike, so you can set your parameters according to your needs and enjoy some online gambling.
The slot is highly volatile (marked 5/5), indicating less frequent but more substantial wins. Thrilling scenes and sequences keep the gameplay thoroughly entertaining with occasional edge-of-your-seat moments.
The maximum win of 10,000x the stake will appeal to everyone, and we do not doubt the game will reach large audiences.
Verdict
Banana Town is a profoundly entertaining game that relies on the nostalgia effect and brings back childhood memories. Attractive features, solid wins, and an exciting mechanic are the elements that make it exquisitely appealing.
This game is a complete delight, from the 8-bit audio-visual presentation to exciting delivery and execution. Some drawbacks are present, including a measly hit frequency rate, but we do not see why it would not become a minor classic. We rate it 4 out of 5 stars.
