Max Megaways Review
You would think international espionage would be a thrilling enough theme to be featured in more slot games. Unfortunately, there is a distinct lack of Bond-themed quips and high-octane action among slot games.
Fortunately, we have Big Time Gaming’s talented team ready to correct that problem! Max Megaways gives us a chance to feel the thrill of being a sneaky super agent. The game has many features, which pair well with its fast-paced gameplay.
- High RTP slot game with a 139,200x top prize
- Megaways with up to 117,649 ways to win
- Exciting bonuses during normal gameplay and extra features
Being a spy is about sneaking your way through the world’s most exotic locations. The artists worked hard to create an attractive island with palm trees and a bright blue ocean luring you in. The soundtrack also captures the feel of being a Bond-like badass.
The presentation is excellent. It looks good but stays out of the way, allowing players to focus on the gameplay and the many features this release offers.
These extra features will be what makes or breaks Max Megaways for you. However, we think the game has more than enough to win players over.
Theme, Graphics and Sounds
We were expecting this spy-themed release to have a bit more spy stuff in it. The backdrop works as an exotic getaway or a tropical villain’s lair hidden as a regular island.
The background changing during free spins also hints there is more to this island than first meets the eye! However, we will let you discover those secrets yourselves.
However, the symbol designs are not as theme-friendly as we would like them to be. The online slot features playing card royals, four colourful diamonds, and briefcases full of diamonds and gold bars.
We could make an excuse that our assignment was to retrieve the diamonds and those priceless briefcases. However, the playing card royals were somewhat disappointing to see.
Gameplay takes place on a standard six-reel playing field with up to 117,649 ways to win. Megaways means the height of each reel constantly shifts, ensuring a different reel configuration for each spin.
Unfortunately, we do not have much of a glimpse into the sort of payouts we can expect. We are reviewing Max Megaways with a preview copy, and Big Time Gaming has not finalized the value of each payout.
However, we can expect the playing card royals to be reserved for lower-value wins. The four diamonds will grant bigger wins, with some icons dedicated to activating the game’s features.
In-game features
The game has many features available for players to enjoy. The game has four base game bonuses that enhance the prizes you can score.
You can also win two types of free spins, including extra modifiers to enhance the feature further. Finally, players can exchange their wins for a chance at activating the free spins bonus.
Base Game Bonuses
The slot features four bonuses that can trigger randomly during normal gameplay. Available features include Maximum Megaways, vertical Wild, horizontal Wild, and Wild Bomb.
Maximum Megaways plays that spin with a guaranteed seven symbols per reel. Vertical Wild turns all icons on one reel into Wilds.
Meanwhile, horizontal Wild does the same, except it swaps all the symbols in the extra reel into Wilds. Finally, Wild Bomb replaces all icons except Scatters and itself with new symbols after all wins get paid.
Free Spins
The game has two Scatters: the regular Scatter and the diamond Megascatter. Three Scatters grant ten free spins. Furthermore, any Scatters on top of the initial three grant two extra free spins.
If you trigger free spins with regular Scatters, you receive the standard bonus with two modifiers. If you activate free spins with a Megascatter, you get the enhanced free spins with three modifiers.
The modifiers you get are randomly picked before free spins begin. The double multiplier increases the free spins multiplier by two after each reaction.
Duplicating Wilds makes it so Wilds turn icons beneath them in the reel into a Wild. 2 Scatter retrigger means you only need two Scatters to retrigger free spins.
Increased ways guarantees at least five symbols will land on each reel. Finally, no lower icons remove the J, 10 and 9 symbols.
Casino members can skip manually triggering free spins in favour of buying them. You can buy ten standard free spins for 75x your wager. Alternatively, you can purchase ten enhanced free spins for 200x your stake.
Win Exchange
Win between 25x and 100x your total stake, and you can exchange your prize for a shot at ten free spins. You spin a wheel – if the arrow lands in the green area, you win the spins. If it lands in the red, you lose.
If you win more than 100x, you are guaranteed to get the ten free spins through the Win Exchange. At that point, the game swaps the red section with purple. If the arrow lands in the purple, you win the enhanced free spins instead.

RTP, bet sizes and volatility
Max Megaways has an RTP of 96.37%, comfortably above average for slot games. Due to reviewing a preview copy, we do not have any information on the hit frequency.
Being on a preview copy also means we do not know what to expect regarding the betting range or volatility. Big Time Gaming does not make this information currently available.
We do know that the minimum bet will be $0.20. We can also estimate a high variance due to the utterly massive jackpot this release offers. However, we will update you with the official information once we know more.
Verdict
Our impressions of the slot are great. We do not have a complete picture yet, but Big Time Gaming gave us enough information to know what to expect. The high RTP and impressive top prize will no doubt attract countless players.
The variety of extra features also goes a long way toward keeping Max Megaways exciting. As for improvements, better symbol designs would help immerse us in this spy fantasy even more. As this game stands, we rate it 4 out of 5 stars.
