Mental Review
Asylums are creepy places even without externals factors. Once people abandon them and allow them to decay, asylums become frightening places. There is a reason so many horror movies are based in such places.
It might not be October yet, but Nolimit City is getting its Halloween practice in. For those bold enough to try this online slot, it offers many creepy sights and chances to score big wins. Do the rewards make it worth delving into the mysteries of Mental, or is it better left unexplored?
- High volatility with a 66,666x jackpot
- 108+ ways to win
- Numerous bonuses include enhancer cells and three types of free spins
Many experiments lay forgotten in the abandoned asylum. Solving the mystery of what happened there is possible, though difficult.
The abandoned facility is home to many paranormal events, which do their best to hinder your progress. If you want to crack the case, you will need to use all the tools at your disposal.
Enhancer cells, symbol transformations, and three types of free spins all help you get closer to the answer. Once you crack the code, you can take home an incredible 66,666x jackpot.
Theme, Graphics and Sounds
Nolimit City has done a great job creating an unsettling atmosphere in this game. The various pictures of patients and organs make you wonder just what awful things happened here.
The background depicts a rather run-down room illuminated by a single light. Every so often, said light flickers, threatening to plunge the room in darkness.
The ambiance changes depending on what special feature is active. We will warn you, some of the implied visuals are quite unsettling.
You play this release on a five-reel board with a 3-2-3-2-3 layout. The board normally has 108 ways to win, but that can be increased due to special features.
You win by landing at least three matching icons in adjacent positions. Winning combinations have to follow an active payline and start with the leftmost reel. If all conditions are met, players receive the appropriate cash prize.
In-game features
Every round has a chance to trigger fire frames. Up to thirteen positions on the reel will become fire frames when the bonus activates. Symbols within fire frames split into two parts, increasing your odds of winning.
If two dead patient icons land on the board, they activate the dead patient bonus. One of the symbols will reveal a random multiplier. This multiplier can be 5x, 10x, 15x, 30x, 50x, 100x, 200x, 500x, 1000x or 9999x.
Enhancer Cells can be found at the bottom of reels two and four. The reel two enhancer cell is activated with four frames, while the reel four enhancer cell requires six frames. Each cell can reveal one of several bonuses.
- One of five regular patients
- A dead patient
- xWays icons that reveal three symbols that expand the reel height
- xSplit, which splits one icon and then doubles those symbols
- regular Wilds
- xNudge Wilds, which nudge to be fully visible on the reel
A spider landing on reel two or four activates the mental transform bonus. The spider transforms into an xWays, xSplit, dead patient, Wild, or a regular patient icon.
Mental Free Spins
Mental features three free spins bonuses. Autopsy free spins are unlocked by landing three scorpions. This awards eight free spins.
Any scorpions found within a fire frame grant an extra free spin. During autopsy free spins, up to five positions are turned into fire frames every free spin. Once they land, fire frames remain until the bonus ends. You can upgrade this bonus into the other two free spins.
Lobotomy free spins are unlocked by finding three scorpion and one spider symbol. This awards nine free spins.
To upgrade autopsy free spins to lobotomy free spins, simply land one spider icon. During this bonus, the spider is sticky and activates the mental transform feature every round. Lobotomy free spins also have a dead multiplier, which can boost payouts drastically.
Mental free spins are awarded by landing three scorpion and two spider symbols. To upgrade to mental free spins, simply land the appropriate number of spider icons.
Mental free spins keep all the features from lobotomy free spins but throw out the decreasing count for the dead multiplier.
You can also activate all three free spins rounds with the buy bonus directly. This will cost you 80x, 230x, and x1000 your bet respectively. Or you can try the random free spins for 232x your bet.
