300 Shields Review
The battle of Thermopylae was one of the best-known events in human history. The brave stand of 300 Spartans against a much larger army has been documented in many movies, TV shows and games.
Now, NextGen Gaming is taking a crack at it. Will 300 Shields be able to live up to the legend of those Spartan heroes?
- Up to 300x multiplier
- 17,773x jackpot
- Simple gameplay with huge win potential
It takes a certain kind of bravery to march towards certain doom. The Spartans who fought in the battle of Thermopylae knew they would not return.
If you are not careful, the same thing could happen to you! Budgeting is key towards successfully tackling this slot and its super high volatility.
However, its sole special feature is the free spins round with symbol collection. If Lady Luck smiles on you, this game can produce a win up to 17,773x your total stake.
Theme, Graphics and Sounds
We have to praise the choice of theme. The last stand of the Spartans against the Persian Empire is a setting many of us know and love.
However, the visuals leave much more to be desired. We are willing to give some leeway to this release, given that it is an older title.
300 Shields depicts peaceful fields, trees and a large Greek city off in the distance.
All things that the warriors who marched to Thermopylae fought to protect. It is just a shame we do not have more animations to bring this setting to life.
You play this slot on a five-reel, three-row board with twenty-five paylines. All paylines are flexible, meaning we can turn them on or off in order to change our minimum bet.
Wins are granted by finding three or more matching icons next to one another. Winning combinations must follow an active payline and start with the leftmost reel. Otherwise, their cash prize will not be granted.
Some of the higher paying symbols only need two or more matching icons next to each other.
In-game features
The only available special feature outside of free spins is the Wild. Wilds can substitute for all other symbols except for the shield Scatter.
Warrior Wilds also play an important role during free spins! Wilds are the highest paying icon in the entire game.
300 Shields Free Spins
Three or more Scatters activates the free spins bonus. You are granted five free spins. Any warrior Wilds that appear in a winning combination will double its cash prize.
Every time an additional Scatter lands, it is collected and added to the count. The more Scatters you collect, the more goodies you unlock.
- Two or more collected Scatters awards five additional free spins. Warrior Wilds will now come with a 5x multiplier instead of 2x.
- Six or more Scatters unlocks your third series of five free spins. It also boosts the Wild multiplier to 25x instead of 5x.
- Finally, twelve or more Scatters grants five more free spins. Warrior Wilds will now appear with a 300x multiplier. This drastically increases the payout of any win they take part in.

RTP, bet sizes and volatility
The RTP for this release is 95.30%. This is somewhat below the current industry average of 96%.
You should not let that discourage you from playing 300 Shields, however. The lower RTP is made up for thanks to its variance and jackpot.
You can bet between $0.25 and $12.50 on each spin if you keep all paylines active.
However, you can push the minimum bet down to just $0.01 if you play with one payline active. That makes this a great penny slot!
We advise against turning off paylines, as it lowers your chances of winning. You change how much you bet per spin and the number of active paylines through the settings page.
While there are many high variance slots out there, this one is in an entirely separate category.
The prizes you can win playing this game are incredible, but they are very difficult to unlock. The only way to earn them is through the sole special feature this release has.
As such, you should prepare for a grind if you want to win 300 Shields’ 17,773x jackpot.

Verdict
This slot is an experience you either love or hate. Not everyone likes high volatility titles, especially when they take it as far as this game does.
However, with just one burst of luck you can win big thanks to the possibility of a 300x win multiplier.
We rate 300 Shields 3 out of 5 stars. The winning potential certainly matches the ancient Spartan heroes.
However, we would like to see better visuals and more bonuses in order to give it a higher rating.
