Irish Eyes Review
When Irish Eyes are smiling, sure ‘tis like a morn in spring. These are lyrics from a famous song dating back to 1912. Can NextGen Gaming’s release live up to that old lighthearted tune?
- 25 flexible paylines
- 10,000x jackpot
- Pick-and-click bonus
Ireland has been a popular online slot theme for as long as we can remember. Leprechauns, rainbows and pots of gold have become synonymous with big wins in the minds of players.
The game has an impressive top prize, which will tempt many players. It also makes up for the somewhat boring special features.
You get two bonuses: free spins with increased payouts, and a pick-and-click special feature.
Theme, Graphics and Sounds
This title originally came out in 2012, and the visuals make it obvious. It holds up quite well given its age.
However, there is no denying it somewhat lags behind visually. Still, it is nice to look at if you are willing to meet it halfway.
The background image is bright and colourful, which we quite like. Symbol designs on the playing field are split between playing card royals and Irish themed icons.
You can enjoy the luck of the Irish on a five-reel, three-row playing field. The release has twenty-five flexible paylines.
This allows players to play with all just one, all twenty-five, or any number of active paylines in between.
In order to win, you need three or more matching symbols next to one another. All wins must follow an active payline and needs to start with the leftmost reel.
In-game features
Land three or more green-eyed ladies scatters to win twelve free spins! The Scatters must follow an active payline in order to grant the special feature.
During free spins, all wins have their prizes tripled in value. It is possible to retrigger the bonus and win additional free spins.
There does not seem to be a limit on how many times you can reactivate the special feature, either.
The pick and win bonus triggers if the leprechaun appears at the same time on reels one and five. Choose one of those two leprechauns to win a cash prize.
You can also draw Pick Again, which lets you choose one more time. You can win up to 100x your total stake.
It is possible to win this special feature during free spins. Unfortunately, the tripled wins do not apply to the results of this bonus.

RTP, bet sizes and volatility
The RTP for this slot is 95.13%. This is below the current industry average of 96%.
This RTP was actually above average when this game first came out. The average simply increased over time as software providers tried to attract more players.
You can bet between $0.01 and $125 on each spin. The minimum bet is only possible by having just one active payline.
We suggest having all twenty-five paylines active to make sure you have the best odds of winning. With all paylines active, your minimum bet will be $0.25.
No leprechaun worth his gold will part with his treasure easily. Yes, you have a chance to win 10,000x your total stake. However, this release has a high volatility that makes it challenging to land this big win.
If you want tot play this game with real money, we recommend LeoVegas.
Verdict
If we were still in 2012, Irish Eyes would have won the hearts of many players. Several years down the line, it feels outdated when compared to other titles.
The special features can create some impressive wins, but they are somewhat bland mechanically. The visuals have held up well, but cannot match the graphics offered by modern games.
We rate the slot 3 out of 5 stars. The score would likely be lower, if it were not for that still impressive jackpot.
