Book of 99 Review
Greek mythology has given us many interesting stories. One such tale is Homer’s Odyssey. It follows Odysseus’s long journey back home, during which he had to combat a variety of challenges and monsters.
The story is well known across the world, meaning Book of 99 has big shoes to fill. Will it succeed in doing so?
- Fantastic choice of theme
- High variance with a 5000x jackpot
- 99% theoretical return to player
This online slot follows a successful trend of engaging titles borrowing ancient Greece for tis themes. However, it is not that often we see individual works referenced.
Most of the time, software providers are content to borrow some monsters and gods and stop for the day. The visuals in this game are fantastic, but are only one part of the equation.
The other falls to the special features, which should be familiar to any fans of book-type releases. The promised 5000x jackpot and 99% RTP only sweeten the deal.
Theme, Graphics and Sounds
Book of 99 clearly has a lot of love put into the whole thing. The background image looks nice, and is enhanced further thanks to subtle animations.
You will spot birds flying off from behind the reels and the clouds traveling across the sky. Then, when free spins come around, the background changes completely.
We go from the coast at dusk to a beautiful ancient Greek city during the day. A transformation that perfectly captures the triumph of returning home after a long journey.
You play this slot on a five-reel, three-row board with ten paylines. All paylines are fixed, meaning we cannot turn them on or off to adjust our total wager.
To win, find three or more identical symbols next to one another, which follow an active payline. All winning combinations must start with the leftmost reel or the relevant cash prize will not be paid.
In-game features
Every Wild that appears on the playing field increases the collection meter by one. The meter sits on the left side of the board, making it easy to check progress on it.
Once you land 99 Wilds, the meter will be filled. This activates the free spins round. The bonus will be played using the average bet size for all spins that contributed to the special feature activating.
Book of 99 Free Spins
Another way of triggering free spins is to land three or more Scatter Wilds at the same time.
In both cases, players receive ten free spins. During the bonus, a random icon is chosen to become an expanding symbol.
The expanding icon will expand to cover the entire reel it is on. It will also pay out on all ten paylines without considering if symbols are in adjacent positions or not.
This is the familiar Book bonus that is used in so many games.

RTP, bet sizes and volatility
The RTP for this release is 99%. That makes it one of the best RTP slots on the market.
The average return to player in the industry is 96%. That means Book of 99 beats the average by a stunning 3%!
You can bet between $0.10 and $100 on each spin. Click or tap on the coins button above the Spin to open a new window.
Here, you will see all available wagers you can play listed. Select the one you want to play and exit the window to start spinning.
The game has a high variance that does its best to keep gameplay engaging through semi-frequent bonuses.
However, that does not mean you can expect to win its 5000x jackpot easily. You will have to play for a while or get incredibly lucky to score a prize like that.
Verdict
When Relax Gaming first announced this release, we were not very interested. However, our curiosity increased over time.
The visuals looked stunning, and a slot with a 99% RTP is hard to pass up on. The only thing we are not too big on are the Book special features.
We had hoped to see some additions by the software provider to make Book of 99 stand out.
With a rating of 4 out of 5 stars, due to it’s amazing RTP and nice theme.
