Book of Muertitos Review
Day of the Dead is a well-known Mexican holiday. Thanks to the distinct makeup and the way it is celebrated, it has become popular worldwide in recent years.
Software providers are not immune to such trends, either. We have seen plenty of Day of the Dead-themed slots in recent years, like Esqueleto Explosivo.
However, Spearhead Studios has an ace up its sleeve: combining this cool theme with the ever-popular ‘book of’ format. Will it be enough to make Book of Muertitos a must-play game?
- Highly volatile with 27,000x jackpot
- Free spins with expanding symbols and Wilds
- Above-average RTP
Over the years, many of us have heard of the Mexican Day of the Dead. It is a rather iconic holiday, which makes it a great theme pick.
You can tell that Spearhead Studios put plenty of effort into the visuals of this online slot. The background and animations are all top-notch, making the release a real feast for the eyes.
Keep in mind this is a very high variance slot. Book of Muertitos can produce wins up to 27,000x your total stake! Available special features include Scatter Wilds and free spins with expanding icons and Wilds.
Theme, Graphics and Sounds
Casino members are quite used to good-looking casino games. That said, we would be lying if we did not stop to admire the view for a few seconds.
The artists have created a gorgeous background image, which we absolutely fell in love with. However, what really adds to the atmosphere are the animations the software provider added.
Wind blowing and small flickers of flame floating on air add to the already attractive image.
You play this release on a five-reel, three-row board with 10 fixed paylines. This means we cannot toggle individual paylines on or off to adjust our total bet.
Wins are awarded by finding at least three identical symbols next to one another, starting with the leftmost reel. All winning combinations have to follow an active payline, or the associated cash prize will not be paid.
In-game features
The title combines the Scatter and Wild into a single icon called the Wild-Scatter. The symbol can substitute for other icons, and it serves to activate free spins. However, it does not have a cash prize of its own.
Book of Muertitos Free Spins
Find three or more Wild-Scatter symbols to win ten free spins. Before free spins are played, one icon is chosen randomly to be the special expanding symbol.
The expanding icon will always expand if it will result in a winning combination.
Additionally, the special expanding symbol does not need to appear in adjacent positions to form wins. This drastically improves your odds of winning with this icon.
Unique to the Book of Muertitos are expanding Wild symbols. They also cover the entire reel wherever they land, further increasing your chances of winning.
On top of that, expanding book Wilds can reveal a 1x, 2x, or 3x multiplier. These multipliers are applied to all expansion wins.
You can have up to three Wilds appear in a single round. If multiple expanding Wilds appear in one round, their multipliers will be combined. That means you can get a multiplier up to 27x in one round.
It is possible to guarantee 3x multipliers will appear atop your Wild icons. For this to happen, the highest paying symbol needs to be chosen as the special expanding icon.
Then, two of these symbols need to land on the board alongside three Wilds. If this condition is met, all three Wilds will display a 3x multiplier.
