Book of Fallen Review
Get ready for an adventure of epic proportions with Pragmatic Play and its Book of Fallen. Once the reels start spinning, players will enter the abyss of dark delights, where they’ll have to crawl through the catacombs filled with curses.
If you already know who John Hunter is, you know what to expect on this journey. Join the daredevil explorer as he travels to Ancient Egypt in this release boasting a typical ‘book’ format.
- High variance with a top prize of 5,000x the bet
- Ten fixed paylines
- The game offers free spins, the Super Spin Ante Bet, and a bonus buy option
Developers didn’t experiment much with Book of Fallen and offered a standard set of features one would expect from an online slot like this. Players can benefit from a free spins bonus and expanding symbols that appear during this round, and the Ante Bet feature.
At the same time, in some jurisdictions, a bonus buy feature will also be available. The top payout is worth 5,000 times your bet. That’s not bad, though we expected more generous prizes due to the game’s high volatility.
Theme, Graphics and Sounds
Book of Fallen uses a popular Egyptian theme, taking place in a structure resembling a tomb or a temple. If you’re a fan of this genre, the surroundings will make you feel at home.
The view is made up of hieroglyphs, columns, and plenty of stonework. The graphics are well-executed and are sure to further add to the excitement.
Playable across all devices, the slot is set on a standard five-reel, three-row grid, and ten fixed paylines.
To start receiving cash prizes, you’ll need to land three symbols of the same kind on one of the game’s paylines. These lines start from the leftmost reel and include the adjacent ones.
In-game features
The Super Ante Bet can be used in the base game to increase the wager by ten times.
Using this option, players can use a special expanding symbol, which pays just like it would during free spins. All win values are calculated using your base wager and the Super Spin Ante bet.
Players in some jurisdictions will also be able to use the bonus buy feature. By paying 100 times their bet, they will instantly trigger the bonus round and receive ten spins in the process.
Book of Fallen Free Spins
The book symbol serves as both the Wild and the Scatter symbol. That means it will replace other regulars, with three or more triggering the free spins bonus.
Doing so will award ten spins. Before the action starts, players will choose the special expanding symbol. Whenever it appears on the grid, it will expand to cover an entire reel. Expanding symbols pay in any position.

RTP, bet sizes and volatility
Book of Fallen comes with a default RTP of 96.50%. This value drops to 96.49% when the Super Ante Bet is activated and 96.48% when using the bonus buy feature.
Betting starts at $0.10, while the maximum amount of money you can wager on every spin is $50.
The slot’s top prize is worth 5,000 times the total bet. Although we expected a more generous reward for those brave enough to tackle the game’s high volatility, it’s a solid top payout.

Verdict
Book of Fallen looks like a typical ‘book of’ slot, which may be a good thing, particularly if you’re a fan of the genre. Choosing an expanding symbol for the free spins round is something new.
The Super Spin Ante Bet is another exciting addition to the gameplay. The increased cost of using this option can discourage players, but the prizes are worth the risk.
Top payouts won’t exceed 5,000 times the stake, which could have been a bit bigger, primarily due to the slot’s high volatility. It’s 4 out of 5 stars from us.
