4 Corners of Rome Review
Besides Greece and Egypt, Ancient Rome has become another safe haven for historical and mythological slot games. Going back to the past is always a good idea when you run out of ideas.
Naturally, the edge of such games has become increasingly dull over the years, with only some of them turning into all-time classics. In addition, some slots among the crowd are not precisely top-tier but manage to insert some originality into the theme.
4 Corners of Rome is one such online slot, freshening things up with the Lock and Load feature and providing its punters with a memorable experience.
- High volatility with a maximum win of 6,300x the stake
- Forty paylines
- Lock and Load feature, the Multiplier symbol and Free Spins
White ancient buildings are in the background, with a blurry picture with some water and vegetation. The concept is pretty ordinary, with the golden eagle spreading its wings from time to time. The soundtrack is innovative, with male and female chanting accompanying the visuals.
The game does not have many features, but the innovative Lock and Load concept provides exciting moments. With a more-than-decent maximum win of 6,300x the bet, 4 Corners of Rome has a lot to offer to its players.
It also has a fair share of problems, but it is an interesting time-killer that takes you on an evocative journey you will not forget.
Theme, Graphics and Sounds
The design is as straightforward as it gets, with nice animations and stylized symbols dominating the screen. The soundtrack is a dreamy, mystical chant that is as catchy as it is unusual, although some might feel there were better choices.
The entire audio-visual aspect is praiseworthy, but the provider has not made an extra effort with it, enhancing the gameplay instead. Simplicity is key here, and history lovers will indubitably be satisfied.
The Eternal City has deserved its name, and it can bring you solid wins in the new online slot. Let’s see what is in store for the players when they start spinning the reels.
The action takes place on a 5×5 game grid with magnified icon positions in the corners. They are crucial in triggering the core game feature, Lock and Load. Land three to five matching symbols on a payline to create a winning combination.
The lower end of the paytable belongs to four card suits that award 0.3x to 0.8x for a five-of-a-kind hit. Moreover, premium symbols include a Scroll, a Jar with Grapes, and a Galea, a Roman warrior helmet.
They grant 1x-2.5x the bet for a full combination of five. Furthermore, a Wild symbol replaces all the regular symbols in winning combos. Golden Eagle Scatter symbols trigger the Free Spins, while a Multiplier symbol comes only during the Bonus round.
In-game features
The Lock and Load feature is the game’s core asset, and it is pretty innovative and original. The four corners of the grid are extra shiny, and the feature is activated when two matching symbols land diagonally on the opposite corner (e.g. upper right and bottom left).
Each of the five symbols on the locking line becomes the same, remaining locked while the reels spin. If any new symbol participates in a win, it will be locked. The process repeats until no new winning combo is created, ending the feature.
If both lines are active, the middle point of the slot transforms into a Wild symbol. It also happens with a symbol on the line that takes part in a win in another way.
The sum is multiplied accordingly at the end of the feature, while Free Spins always activate the Lock and Load feature.
4 Corners of Rome Free Spins
You trigger the Bonus round by landing three Scatter symbols on the game board, and the feature will be active on all spins. Players get to choose between three insanely volatile spins, six highly volatile or nine not-so-highly volatile spins.
Each corner can turn wild with three spins, allowing punters to land handsome wins. When there are six spins, three corners can go Wild, and with nine, two of them can become Wild.
If you fill the entire grid with winning icons, you get three insanely volatile, two highly volatile and one spin of medium volatility. The Multiplier symbol can hit the reels only during this round, boosting the Lock and Load Multiplier by +1 for the rest of the spins.
The Bonus Buy feature gives you multiple possibilities, but you can purchase the Free Spins round for 100x the stake. The other options enable you to gamble for smaller amounts, where a 20% chance costs 20x the bet, and so on.
If you win the feature, you will choose from the same options as in a regular game. The Lock and Load Multiplier will have a random value of x2-x5.

RTP, bet sizes and volatility
The default RTP value is 96.12%, going slightly above the industry average. The hit frequency has not been announced, but it should not be too high, based on the parameters.
Numerous betting options are in store for the players, starting at $0.10, with the highest wager you can place, amounting to $30.
It might scare high rollers away, being ideal for penny-pinchers and modest punters. However, fast-paced gameplay and a decent maximum win might lure them back into the game.
The game is highly volatile, promising less frequent but more substantial wins. Thrilling moments and sequences will keep up the tempo, but the low symbol values somewhat hinder the game. However, it is still interesting enough to keep players invested.

Verdict
4 Corners of Rome is not an all-time classic, but it has a lot to show. The innovative Lock and Load feature does the trick, keeping the gameplay creative and exciting. The Free Spins round is also tremendously engaging, delivering an unforgettable experience.
While the visuals are not particularly impressive and symbol values are pretty low, the game still has enough appeal to provide multiple entertaining sessions. We rate it 4 out of 5 stars.
