Gemix 2 Review
Following the success of the original Gemix, it was only a matter of time before a sequel came out. Play’n GO have gone all out for the sequel.
Players can travel across worlds and enjoy a variety of special features with every round they play. Does Gemix 2 have what it takes to defeat its predecessor and claim the cluster pay throne?
- Beautiful graphics with four different worlds
- Huge number of special features
- High variance with a 7500x jackpot
Cluster pay slots were all the rage a couple of years ago. Like all trends, the bulk of the attention eventually disappears.
However, new online slots still come out using that concept, which is great news for players who enjoy such things.
As a sequel, this release does not stray too far from the original Gemix formula. Parts of its special features will look familiar, while other will feel brand new.
That said, we are sure playing will appreciate the high volatility and 7500x jackpot.
Theme, Graphics and Sounds
While all software providers can make beautiful online slots, Play’n GO takes it to the next level in Gemix 2.
The developer gives us not one but four different worlds to play through. That means four different backgrounds.
Each world comes with its own soundtrack playing in the background. It goes a long way in keeping the game visually interesting for players in the long-term.
You play this release on a seven-reel, seven-row board with cluster pays. That means players do not have to worry about following exact paylines.
You only need to find five or more identical symbols next to one another. Matching icons must be connected horizontally or vertically. Diagonally matched symbols will not form a valid winning combination.
In-game features
Winning icons disappear after awarding a cash prize. The empty positions are filled by existing symbols, while brand new ones appear from the top.
This allows players to win multiple times for the price of a single spin. Landing multiple consecutive wins is integral for the Crystal Charge meter.
Every twenty-five winning icons you collect in the meter will activate a modifier. You will win one of four modifiers. What modifiers you get are chosen randomly.
Available modifiers include:
- Nova Blast – explodes one symbol, while transforming and destroying adjacent icons.
- Crystal Wrap – one random symbol type is transformed into another.
- Light Beam – a beam of light transforms all affected icons into other symbols.
- Chain Lightning – two corner icons are connected with a lightning bolt. All symbols between the two are transformed into one of the two corner icons.
When you get fifty winning symbols in a single cascading reels sequence, you win the Super Charge. This increases your multiplier by 2x and grants all four modifiers.
Collecting fifty more retriggers Super Charge and increases the multiplier again. The multiplier’s maximum value is 20x.
Pay attention to the playing field. You will notice some parts of the board have blue background tiles.
If a winning cluster is formed on top of them, they turn gold. These are world patterns. If all blue tiles turn golden, you will be able to move to the next world.
Before that happens, the gnome offers you a chance to win the world bonus. Pick between two pockets. One pocket contains the prize, and the other one is empty. If you guess right, you win the world bonus.
Finally, all four worlds have their guardians. Guardians appear at random times, and trigger their respective Wild features.
Available bonuses are as follows:
- The knight’s world grants two mega sized multiplier Wilds.
- The miner’s world awards up to ten randomly placed Wilds.
- The princess’ world gives Wilds that can spread from one edge to another.
- The wizard’s world grants up to five sticky Wilds.
