Into the Storm Review
Nordic mythology has become increasingly popular across the industry, providing the setting and background for many casino games. With little space to be innovative and original, developers attempt to create an appealing game for the fans.
The guys from Scientific Games have managed to do so with its latest Viking-themed slot, Into the Storm. Despite the theme, it is an unassuming and charming game that uses its strengths to attract punters and bring them luck.
While it will not top any lists, it has all the necessary ingredients to become a fan favourite, especially if you are into the topic. Many surprises are around the corner for the patient and lucky players.
- High volatility with a maximum win of 10,500x the stake
- Twenty paylines
- Wild Respins, Into the Storm Bonus and Buy Pass
As usual from this developer, the graphics are sharp and crisp, offering a fantastic visual presentation. The appropriately epic soundtrack follows the well-designed animations, giving players the complete treat.
There is no dull moment in the online slot with a couple of modern features and the exciting battle on the reels. Combining elements makes up an exciting mixture and creates an attractive game.
The beginning is shy, lulling players into a false sense of security, but everything comes alive once the battle stirs up. The strongest will survive and take the loot home if lucky. The game offers a decent maximum win of 10,500x the bet.
Theme, Graphics and Sounds
You need not fret because of the titular storm, as it strikes only when the features approach, granting hefty payouts. Otherwise, the sky is clear, and the day is beautiful for sailing and pillaging.
Set aboard a long, wooden ship, this new online slot does not offer many visual surprises, but it is beautifully presented. The sailing is smooth, and it might be profitable if the hit frequency is favourable (nothing has been announced yet).
It requires patience and a lot of luck, but it is a thoroughly entertaining game that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It is not the most lucrative in the industry, but there have been a lot less generous slots in the industry.
The action transpires on a standard 5×3 grid with twenty paylines, and you need three matching symbols on a payline to win. Five runes are the low-pay symbols, awarding 1x-2x the bet for a five-of-a-kind win.
Three Viking characters and a helmet are premium symbols, granting 4x-20x the stake for the same string. Moreover, Wild symbols replace all the regular icons and participate in various features to help create more winning combos.
Kraken symbols activate the Bonus round to take things to the next level, offering multiple attractive perks. Punters worldwide will have an excellent time looting and preying on hefty wins.
In-game features
The Wild Respins feature randomly triggers on any base game spin. Whenever that happens, two to four Walking Wilds show up on the reels, moving one position left or right on every respin.
The feature stops when there are no more Walking Wilds on the grid. You are in for numerous handsome payouts during this attractive game.
Into the Storm Free Spins
Kraken Bonus symbols appear in the base game, with one, two or three triggering three, four and five Kraken Hot Zones, respectively. The Bonus round is then played on a 9×5 board with three initial spins.
Each position can reveal blank symbols, x1-x3 Multipliers or modifiers. If the positions are not blank, the symbols remain in place and reset the spin count to three.
The modifiers include the Hammer, with the lightning doubling a random number of Multipliers and a Treasure Chest that gathers the values of Multipliers.
The Viking Coin increases the number of spins to four, while the last modifier is the Kraken Hot Zone. Each Kraken icon creates a Hot Zone, placing the x2-x5 Multipliers in the adjacent spaces. If Hot Zones happen to overlap, their Multipliers are brought together.
Furthermore, when a Multiplier symbol hits the Zone, it is multiplied by the value it lands on. The round finishes when there are no more spins, all Multipliers are awarded, or all positions are filled. The maximum win of 10,500x the stake is on the horizon for the lucky punters.
The Buy Pass feature allows them to enter the Bonus round immediately, with three, four or five Scatters hitting the reels. It will cost them 105x, 145x and 185x the bet, respectively.

RTP, bet sizes and volatility
The game’s default RTP amounts to 96.0%, which equals the industry standard, promising decent payouts. The hit frequency is unknown, but we expect a decent one, though not great, given the parameters.
Multiple winning opportunities await the players, although the betting scope is narrow. The lowest possible bet stands at $0.20, while the highest wager you can place is $20.
The idea was to make the game affordable for penny-pinchers and daredevils alike, though it might scare the latter away. The solid maximum win may lure some back. Set the parameters according to your needs and budget, and enjoy the game.
In accordance with the theme, this slot is highly volatile, promising less frequent but more lucrative wins. When you enter the Bonus round, things become even more interesting, offering more winning possibilities. Players will have a blast raiding and searching for big wins in Into the Storm.

Verdict
Into the Storm might not be as pompous and boisterous as some other Viking slots, but it still offers a lot. Its straightforward gameplay with a couple of carefully incorporated features is good enough to provide great fun.
If you do not expect much from this game, it might pleasantly surprise you with its great Bonus round and solid payouts. It will not be an all-time classic, but it will have its place among the good titles in the provider’s portfolio.
It might be worth getting into this storm if this kind of slot is your thing. Our rating is 4 out of 5 stars.
