Sparky & Shortz Review
Developed by Play ’n Go, Sparky & Shortz is a creative online slot that takes inspiration from space exploration and robot technology.
While some of these elements can sometimes appear sterile on the screen, in the new release from Play ’n Go we can see a more vivid story, a game with a spirit.
In other words, Sparky & Shortz is a game that players who click with it will go back to it many, many times after.
- Highly volatile math model delivering a potential 10.000x max win
- Standard 5×3 grid with 10 paying lines
- Win Multiplier, Boost Meter and Free Spins as special features
Think electricity, futuristic style, tubes, robots and the cosmos as your oyster in this game. Play ’n Go is not known as one of the most prolific and most creative software developers in the global market for nothing.
These guys know how to make a game for the ages and we can see Sparky & Shortz winning over many Canadian players.
Theme, Graphics and Sounds
Sparky & Shortz from the game’s title are the two protagonists of this sci-fi story. They are two robots who are doing their best to survive and save this new planet they are currently at.
Shortz is the big robot and his body acts as a framework for the reels, which is really cool. Sparky, the floating one, will try to repair his friend, as Alpha Labori, the planet they inhabit, is in danger.
This is what casino games are all about. If you want bells, fruits and bars, you’ll have to get into a space pod and fly away.
To match the theme, the designers went with gemstones for lower-paying symbols and extraterrestrials in capsules for the really valuable ones, paying from 6x to 10x the bet.
Another capsule contains the Wild and is easily noticeable due to its wacky colours, whereas the Scatter looks like a power cell with a mysterious orb inside.
Depending on the situation, the backdrop will shift from a tech lab to a lovely image of the planet Alpha Labori. The sound effects are fitting for the theme and will keep up with the events that take place on the reels.
In-Game Features
As an alternative to the base game, Sparky & Shortz offers a few attractive and lucrative features. For one, there is the Win Multiplier mechanic.
It allows the player to activate the Win Multiplier by landing three of the same symbols on a reel by stacking them. The multiplier increases by 1 with each stacked reel and will be applied to any winnings obtained during its active spin.
The Boost Meter activates randomly. Hopefully, you will have some reels stacked already when this happens and the multiplier will be increased by the value given by the Boost Meter.
The amounts you can look forward to are 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, or 10x and you will need help from Sparky on this one, as he will try to activate this option on every spin.
Sparky & Shortz Free Spins
The power cell Scatter is the key icon in the Free Spins feature in the Sparky & Shortz video slot.
The Scatter only appears on reels 1, 3 and 5. If three of them land on a single spin, the feature will trigger and the player will benefit from free spins.
Apart from 10 free plays awarded, there are also two extras during Free Spins. One, the Boost Meter is always active throughout the bonus round.
And two, the Win Multiplier doesn’t reset from one spin to the next. The win potential is the highest at this point.

Verdict
Sparky & Shortz is a visually very attractive slot. The design is good enough to blow any player away. The question comes down to whether you enjoy the thematic or not and whether you can handle high volatility.
In all other aspects, the game knocks it out of the park. There are special features available to spice up the base game and the bonus round is where the potential builds up, ready to explode. We had fun with Sparky & Shortz and give the game a 4 out of 5 stars rating.
