Stars of Orion Review
Orion is a constellation that can be seen from any corner of Earth. From the early days of human civilization, it has been drawing the attention of humans, with the earliest depictions of the ‘Huntsman’ being nearly 40,000 years old.
So it comes as no surprise that it had already appeared in an online slot. Now it’s time to see ELK Studios’ take on it in the release titled Stars of Orion.
- High variance and the maximum payout of 10,000x the bet
- Cluster Pays system
- The game combines the developer’s gravity mechanic, cluster wins, X-iter modifiers, the Magic Meter and much more.
Developers at ELK Studios made sure the game wouldn’t lack excitement. Packed with immersive game mechanics and carefully selected features, Stars of Orion offers an entertaining experience and many chances to scoop prizes.
In addition to Clusters Pays, the list of available options includes X-iter modes, the Magic Meter, and a bonus round. The game is highly volatile, which means it’s not suited for everyone. However, the top jackpot of 10,000 times the bet represents a befitting award for those brave enough to tackle it.
Theme, Graphics and Sounds
The graphics look crisp, with the background imagery consisting of a night sky and standing monoliths resembling Stonehenge.
Symbols populating the reels include four coloured orbs, wolves, birds, deer and sevens, which stick out from the rest of the icons. The atmosphere matches the theme and promises an exciting playing experience right from the start.
Stars of Orion is played on a grid consisting of six columns, with each holding eight symbols. Winning clusters are created by matching five or more symbols connected in any way.
A cluster can hold up to fifteen symbols, paying from 35 to 200 times the bet. Wilds can appear anywhere on the reels to replace other regulars, and more importantly, award the same payouts as the highest-paying regular.
In-game features
Once a winning cluster is formed, it gets removed from the reels by the Avalanche feature. New or existing symbols will tumble down left or right to fill in the empty positions. It can create new clusters, repeating the whole process. Avalanches stop when there are no new wins.
Any regular icon may appear with a blue frame around it, which turns it into a super symbol. When it becomes a part of a winning cluster, it will turn all winning symbols into the most valuable type.
Winning symbols are also collected in the Magic Meter, located next to the main playing area. Doing so triggers multipliers ranging from 2x to 64x and can also unlock additional Magic features, such as:
- Symbol Swap – swaps adjacent symbols to form win.
- Orion’s Belt – an additional spin with three Wilds formed as Orion’s belt.
- Orion’s Club – an additional spin with six Wilds formed as Orion’s club.
- Orion’s Shield – an extra spin with eight Wilds formed as Orion’s shield.
- Orion – an additional spin with thirteen Wilds formed as the entire constellation.
The X-iter option allows players to purchase one of five alternative modes:
- Guaranteed Win – pay five times the bet to get a guaranteed win.
- Super Symbols – pay ten times the bet for a round where more super symbols appear.
- Symbol Swap – buy a round where three additional Symbol Swap features, triggered after an avalanche is completed.
- Buy Bonus – pay 100x the bet to trigger the bonus round.
- Super Bonus – pay to activate the Super Bonus round.
Stars of Orion Free Spins
Landing three Scatters unlocks the bonus round and awards players ten spins, or drops as they are called in this game. The Magic Meter doesn’t reset during the round, with bonus symbols appearing with a red frame around them.
These are super bonus symbols. If the triggering symbols are of the super kind, the Super Bonus round is activated, giving players ten drops where super symbols land in a greater number.

RTP, bet sizes and volatility
Stars of Orion comes with an RTP of 95%. This value is quite below the current industry average.
When it comes to betting, the lowest stake you can place per spin is $0.20, while the maximum one is $100.
With a bit of luck, players can look forward to claiming wins going up to 10,000 times their bet. That’s an appropriate reward for those who are not scared of the game’s high volatility.

Verdict
Stars of Orion may not impress you at first, but as you dig deeper, you’ll see this slot has a lot to offer. Cluster Pays add more dynamic to the gameplay, while super symbols can be very useful for claiming bigger prizes.
We particularly love the game’s top jackpot of 10,000 times the bet, which is sure to appeal to high rollers. However, the low RTP lessens the charm. That’s why we give it 4 out of 5 stars.
