Sun of Fortune Review
Oriental slots have always been widespread across the industry, adding a touch of mystique to the casino games. Numerous providers have developed games with a Chinese theme, but they have seldom been connected to the old beliefs.
The guys from Wazdan have created an unusual game with enough originality to stand out a little. Everything revolves around the unique Hold the Jackpot feature, but you can also land Jackpots that will bring you hefty amounts.
The provider also rehashes some familiar elements, creating a solid game that is not without its share of problems. Still, it is a decent release that helps punters kill some time while visiting an exotic location. Do you have what it takes to grab handsome payouts?
- Choose your own volatility with a maximum win of 1,450x the stake per round
- No paylines
- Hold the Jackpot and Respins
The graphics are crisp and sharp but not the best Wazdan has ever presented. While there are some attractive visual solutions, the developers did not spend too much time making the animations richer.
Do not get us wrong; the entire visual presentation of this online slot is quite good, and the traditional Chinese soundtrack fits it well. However, we know this provider can do better in that field.
The people who created Sun of Fortune seemingly spent most of the time making it look exotic. Still, there are not many elements that make it so, except for the setting and the appearance. Slot enthusiasts can kill some time with this game, but it will not go down in history as one of the best.
Theme, Graphics and Sounds
Chinese slots have a sense of mystical flair around them, and Sun of Fortune is no exception. However, some ideas seem tired despite well-designed symbols, like the plain red background.
The soundtrack could also have been slightly different, as it is similar to almost any other Asian-themed music in slot games. It complements the visuals well, but it is more of the same.
The features give players opportunities to grab decent wins, but nothing is too interesting here. The Pay Anywhere system, instead of traditional paylines, is a novelty, but it wears off pretty quickly.
The action takes place on a 4×4 grid with independent reels and no traditional paylines. Land eight to sixteen matching icons anywhere on the board to score a win. The lower end of the paytable belongs to four royals (J-A) of different colours.
You can win 8x, 12x, 15x, and 25x the stake for the whole grid, respectively. Moreover, sixteen Koi Fish are worth 40x the bet, with Dragon Turtles awarding 60x the stake. A Phoenix gives 100x for sixteen, while a Golden Dragon grants 200x the stake.
Wild and Bonus symbols do not provide any cash, but the former replaces all the regular icons on the grid. Furthermore, the latter activates the game’s features which could generate handsome wins.
In-game features
Trigger the Hold the Jackpot feature by landing six or more Bonus symbols anywhere on the board. Furthermore, if you hit three to five such symbols, you activate the Bonus symbol Respin feature, which helps you win one of the Jackpots.
The triggering icons remain on the grid while the rest is cleared. Players receive three respins with every Bonus symbol they land, resetting the tally to three.
The symbols come with random cash values amounting to 1x-15x, with the three Jackpots (Mini, Minor and Major) lurking in the background. They are worth 20x, 50x and 150x the stake, respectively.
Multiple instances of winning smaller Jackpots are possible with the Grand Jackpot (1,000x) if you fill the entire grid.
The prize is added to anything else you have won, and you can gamble it by guessing the card suit if you like. The feature ends if there are no more respins.
Sun of Fortune Free Spins
Unfortunately, there are no conventional Free Spins in this game, ruining a great chance to be more memorable. With a good Bonus round, this slot would have had so much more to show for it.
It is incredible the developers decided to leave the round out in this day and age with such a measly payout potential. Free Spins are a must today, for if there are not any, the game should be rich with features to make up for it.
Sun of Fortune is not a bad game, but rich with features, it is not. While trying to look modern, the game wants to pull off something as ancient as having no Free Spins. We are sorry to say that the lack of the proper Bonus round hinders the game irreparably.

RTP, bet sizes and volatility
The RTP is 96.15%, going slightly above the industry standard, and the hit frequency of 21.98%. It means every fifth spin or so is a winning one. It does not seem bad, but not everything is as it seems.
Many wagering options are possible, with the lowest possible bet standing at $0.10. The highest bet wager you can place amounts to $100, meaning the game looks to attract everyone. High rollers and penny-pinchers alike will be drawn to try it out.
The volatility is adjustable, meaning you can determine the game’s rhythm. It is an exciting concept that grants multiple possibilities, but the game does not leave too big a choice due to the below-average payout potential. It amounts to 1,450x the stake per round, ruining the opportunity to be more memorable.

Verdict
There is a great game somewhere in the potential of Sun of Fortune, but this title never realizes it. Some engaging ideas are there; a great concept exists, but carrying them out was difficult.
The main problems are the lack of the Free Spins round and the thin winning potential, ruining the game’s appeal. Good elements are also there, but the game fails in two areas most important to the players.
It is far from being entirely bad, but it could have been good, and it is not. Our rating is 3 out of 5 stars.
