RegionsBCLC tests sports betting offering at bars and pubs
Published: February 20, 2025
British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) test-launched its sports betting offering to selected bars in the province right before the Super Bowl match on Sunday.
These locations, including one casino, were the first to allow wagering on sports through the PlayNow.com sportsbook after single-event sports betting was made legal last year.
Live sports-betting odds and information about PlayNow.com available promotions and tips were displayed across digital screens placed at venues that took part in the pilot.
Registered players were given the possibility of scanning a QR code with their mobile device to receive a $10 free-bet voucher.
Here’s the list of all locations that took part in the testing:
- In Kamloops: Fox and Hounds Pub
- In Langley: Jimmy Mac’s Pub
- In Coquitlam: John B Pub, Woody’s Pub on Brunette,
- In Port Coquitlam: Cat & Fiddle Pub
- In Richmond: Legends Pub
- In Surrey: Baselines Pub, Brewster’s Pub, Samz Neighbourhood Pub
- In Maple Ridge: Fox’s Reach Pub & Grill
- In Abbotsford: Highwayman Pub
- In Kelowna: Chances Kelowna
- In Vancouver: Rogers Arena Sportsbar
The testing comes as Canada gets ready to see the results of single-event sports betting legalization. At the same time, Ontario is preparing to launch real money casino betting on April 4.
Dan Beebe, Interim Chief Operating Officer at BCLC, said:
This marks the first step in testing how PlayNow.com, B.C.’s local sportsbook, can be implemented at land-based locations. This pilot will help BCLC to understand the preferences of sports bettors and help inform future experiences and programs to help support safe positive play.
