Solar Queen Review
Few things are certain in life. However, one thing you can always count on is the sun rising in the morning. For most of us, that is a plain fact.
For Playson, it is an opportunity to create an interesting idea for a special feature. Will the Solar Queen’s dawn be enough to set it apart from its competition?
- 2,668x jackpot
- Gameplay loops around a ten-spin cycle
- Progressive multiplier with no limit
Ancient Egypt is a theme that needs no introduction. Players have enjoyed the view of pyramids, pharaohs and old deities for as long as we can remember!
For the ancient Egyptians, the sun was Ra’s gift to the world. It was elevated above all other things as the leading god of the Egyptian pantheon.
As such, it is no surprise to learn all special features rely on the sun to some degree!
Theme, Graphics and Sounds
We have seen the land of pharaohs and pyramids plenty of times. However, most online slots that explore the idea set it during daytime.
This gives the game an advantage, as it portrays a familiar setting in a new light.
The beautiful night sky combined with a light fog breathe new visual life into this dead civilization. Hats off to the artists who worked hard to make it look this good!
You play this release on a five-reel, four-row board with twenty fixed paylines. That means players cannot turn paylines on or off.
To win, you need at least three matching symbols in adjacent positions, starting with the leftmost reel.
All winning combinations have to follow an active payline, or their cash prize will not be granted.
In-game features
Sun icons can appear on any reel during normal gameplay. They do not offer a cash prize of any kind. Instead, they leave behind a flaming frame!
These frames will become sticky and last until the cycle ends. Each cycle consists of ten spins total. You can keep track of how many spins are left in a cycle through a meter on the top right.
After the tenth spin, all collected flaming frames disappear. This allows new suns to appear and add a new set of frames for the next cycle.
There is an additional use for sun symbols. They can also be used to increase the progressive multiplier! Each time the sun icon lands on a position with a flaming frame, it increases the multiplier by one.
Each spin winning during the cycle will also increase the multiplier. The current spin multiplier is constantly updated and saves until the end of the cycle. The multiplier value resets to 1x after ten regular spins.
Solar Queen Free Spins
Find three Scatters to win ten free spins. During free spins, sun symbols will immediately transform into Wilds. These Wilds will be sticky.
That means they cannot be removed from the board until free spins end. The winnings multiplier active when free spins were activated will be active during this mode, too.

RTP, bet sizes and volatility
Solar Queen’s RTP is set to 95.78%. This is slightly below the current industry average of 96%. However, this should not detract you from playing this slot.

This opens a dropdown menu from which we can choose a stake that suits us. We like the spread of wagers available in this game.
It has plenty of options! That means all types of casino members can find a bet that suits them.
The top prize you can win is 2,668x your total stake. This is a good jackpot, and fits with the medium-high variance set by Playson.

Verdict
This release is not the first one to use a spin cycle to grant bonuses frequently. However, we cannot think of many slots that have done is as elegantly as Solar Queen has.
Each spin comes with the potential of winning big. The beginning of each cycle brings the hope of a new, win-filled dawn.
We had a blast playing this game, though it had a few minor flaws.
We rate the title 4 out of 5 stars. It may not be perfect, but its golden shine makes it stand out in a sea of generic competitors.
