Silverback Gold Review
The Swedish developer, NetEnt, has been on a nostalgia kick recently, revisiting some of its older hits. Silverback Gold doesn’t quite follow on from the original Gorilla Kingdom game, but it makes a bold statement by rectifying the criticism its predecessor received.
The result is an exciting game that promises to deliver a memorable playing experience and more than enough chances to claim wins.
- High volatility with a top payout worth 45,126 times the bet
- 1,024 different ways to win
- The list of available features includes Silverback Attack, Free Spins and an accompanying bonus game, and the feature buy option
Many elements of this game have been carried over from the Gorilla Kingdom, although NetEnt made sure they were upgraded. This particularly goes for the online slot’s features, where in addition to the fine-tuned things, you’ll find new ones as well.
Players can benefit from Wilds, Scatters, the Silverback Attack, a bonus game, and Free Spins. A bonus buy option is also available in some jurisdictions. Payouts go up to 45,126 times the bet, which is a generous top prize for a highly volatile game.
Theme, Graphics and Sounds
The original game’s visuals didn’t require many changes, so NetEnt decided to largely stick to it. Behind the reels is a lush jungle, with the light setting a mesmerising atmosphere ready to captivate players right from the start.
Two games look very similar, with the only exception being the addition of the feature buy button, located on the left side of the screen.
Silverback Gold is played on a five-reel, four-row grid, and instead of traditional paylines, offers 1,024 ways to win. To win, you’ll need to land three matching symbols on adjacent reels starting from the leftmost reel.
Two gorilla symbols are an exception, with only two of a kind enough to get the job done.
Low-value icons pay up to 1.5 times your bet, regulars award prizes worth up to three times the stake, while the highest-paying gorilla pays eight times the bet. Wilds replace other regular symbols, while in Free Spins, they have multiplying abilities.
In-game features
The Silverback Attack feature is available in both the main game and free spins round. Once activated, it will add from six to twenty premium silverback symbols on the reels, giving players an additional chance to hit a decent win.
Before the Free Spins round starts, players will take part in a preliminary bonus game. The triggering Scatters stay in their position, while three spins are awarded.
Other positions spin individually, with only tokens appearing on the grid. Any token landing reveals a value and resets the number of spins. The game ends when players run out of spin, fill all positions with tokens, or their combined value reaches 300.
The bonus buy feature allows slot enthusiasts to purchase Free Spins by paying 100 times their bet.
Silverback Gold Free Spins
Three or more Scatters trigger the bonus, awarding ten, fifteen or twenty spins, respectively. During the round, players collect tokens, added to a collect meter. When you get a certain number of tokens, one of the symbols is upgraded into the premium silverback icon.
- 30 tokens upgrade crocodile symbols
- 60 tokens upgrade leopard symbols
- 120 tokens will upgrade snake symbols
- 200 tokens are needed to upgrade bird symbols.
- 300 tokens turn regular silverbacks into golden silverbacks
In Free Spins, Wilds come with a 2x or 3x multiplier. If two or more Wilds form a winning combination, their values are multiplied. Any new Scatter appearing adds one spin to the count.
