Ancient Fortunes: Zeus Review

Atop mount Olympus lies the realm of Zeus and the Greek gods. Are you bold enough to ascend past the clouds and lay claim to their treasure?
- Rolling reels make a triumphant return
- Medium variance gameplay with a decent reward
- Beautiful lightning and cloud animations
Greek mythology is incredibly detailed. It inspired countless software providers to make truly interesting online slots over the years.
Microgaming and Triple Edge Studies are not the first to use ancient Greece for their games. However, they may have made one of the best-looking titles currently on the market with this theme!
It makes for a very promising release. Especially when combined with rolling reels, a multiplier trail and free spins.
Theme, Graphics and Sounds
The background image for Zeus Ancient Fortunes is eye-catching by itself. We can see what lies above the cloudy sky we usually see.
A building made of pure gold, only visible in between spins. However, what caught our attention were the animations. Clouds float up and down in a very serene manner.
Lightning will occasionally flash in the sky. It will even pass through the clouds! It is a small detail, but one that left us lightning-struck.
Zeus’ generosity is evident when he awards prizes. You can win both ways in this game, rather than just left-to-right.
While you only have ten paylines, this effectively doubles their efficiency. Once you add rolling reels and the multiplier into the mix, things get even more exciting!
All the action takes place on a five-reel, three-row board.

In-game features
We love the rolling reels mechanic. When Zeus Ancient Fortunes reintroduced it, we were immediately interested in playing it.
If you played with the system before, you know what to expect. Symbols that were part of a win will disappear from the board.
Existing icons will fall to take any empty spots. At the same time, brand new symbols will appear to fill in any gaps.
This allows rolling reels to grant multiple consecutive wins with just one spin.
This would be a good special feature by itself. However, the developers enhance it further by adding the multiplier trail.
Every consecutive roll increases the win multiplier. During normal gameplay, it starts with 1x, and then increases to 2x, 3x and finally 7x.
When free spins are active, the baseline multiplier jumps up to 3x. Subsequent consecutive rolls let it climb up to 7x, 11x and finally 21x.
Free spins are won by finding three, four or five Scatters on an active winning line. This grants ten, fifteen or twenty free spins, respectively.
It is possible to win additional free spins. Simply draw more Scatters while the bonus is being played.
Where To Play Ancient Fortunes: Zeus?
RTP, bet sizes and volatility
The RTP for Zeus Ancient Fortunes is 96.02%. By comparison, the average RTP for slots is 96%.
It feels like Microgaming and Triple Edge bumped it up oh so slightly. Just so they could claim it is technically above average.
Players can bet between $0.10 and $140 on each spin. This is a good spread of wagers. Something that will please both casual casino members and high rollers.
We get a medium variance game, with a single top prize of 1399.3x. This requires winning the top prize and getting lucky with a multiplier.

Verdict
After just half an hour playing this release, we knew we would keep coming back to it.
The way all three special features work together is incredible. The multiplier trail and rolling reels keep each spin interesting.
When free spins are activated, they also feel sufficiently rewarding. The great graphics are just a cherry on top of an already delicious cake.
We have no qualms about giving Zeus Ancient Fortunes a 4 out of 5 stars score. Now, excuse us while we steal another slice of ancient Greek goodness.
