Divine Fortune Megaways Review
Greek mythology is filled with interesting monsters that might pose a challenge to lesser champions. This NetEnt slot faces a different danger – whether it can live up to the potential of what came before it.
- Updated visuals that stay true to the original
- The Wild bonuses remains incredibly fun special features
- Top prize is still good, despite a lack of progressive jackpot
For better or worse, NetEnt never ventured far into the world of progressive jackpot slots.
Of course, this just makes the few games they produced that use this system that much more valuable. When it was announced Divine Fortune would receive the Megaways treatment, many were excited.
The updated online slot features falling Wilds re-spins, the Wild on Wild bonus and a free spins round. Notably absent, however, is the progressive jackpot many players loved.
Theme, Graphics and Sounds
There is a calculated simplicity in Divine Fortune Megaways. For the original, it was a necessary restriction.
Hardware back then was simply not as powerful as it is now. In the new version, the visuals are updated, but the background stays the same.
NetEnt have done a good job of making it look exactly how we remember it. Even more impressive, as they also added a much larger set of reels.
How much bigger? We have gone from five to six reels. Unlike the original, Divine Fortune Megaways has its symbols height constantly changing.
Previously, we had just three symbols per reel. Now, each reel can hold between two to seven icons, and this changes with each spin.
To win, you need three or more matching symbols next to one another. Wins must follow an active payline, and has to start with the leftmost reel.
In-game features
Graphics are not the only part of this game that will look familiar to veterans. Almost all the special features make a come back in one form or another.
Falling Wild re-spin has made a triumphant return. When a Wild lands on the board, it will grant a re-spin after all wins are paid.
It will also move down one position on the reel it landed on. Re-spins continue until the Wild vanishes entirely.
Of course, new Wilds can appear during the re-spins special feature. If a new Wild lands on an existing falling Wild, it triggers the Wild on Wild bonus.
The Wild expands to cover the entire reel, portrayed by the flying horse Pegasus. This new full-reel Wild is subject to the same mechanics as the Falling Wild re-spin.
Once it disappears from the reels, the re-spin mechanic ends. Unless a new Wild appears, that is!
Divine Fortune Megaways Free Spins
A lightning bolt plays the part of Scatter. Find four, five or six of them at the same time to win ten, fifteen or twenty free spins.
Every extra lightning bolt Scatter adds five additional free spins. During free spins, Wilds will automatically expand to cover the entire reel when they land.
During free spins, three different bonus win icons can appear on the playing field. These come in the shape of bronze, silver and golden coins!
Each coin you find fills up a meter. Once you get collect five coins, you win a cash prize. How much you win also depends on the coin quality.
Five bronze, silver or gold coins pay 10x, 25x or 500x, respectively. After a win is paid, the collection meter is reset.

RTP, bet sizes and volatility
The RTP for Divine Fortune Megaways is 96.09%. This is above average when compared to modern games. However, it is lower than the original’s 96.59%.
Players can bet between $0.10 and $100 on each spin.
NetEnt’s new user interface has simplified placing a wager dramatically. Simply click or tap the coin, and select the bet you want to play.
Finally, the absence of the progressive jackpot can be felt on the game’s variance. The original was highly volatile, and felt like a grind to achieve any kind of notable win.
The new version has medium variance and is more forgiving and easier to master. However, its top prize is very different from the original’s progressive jackpots.

Verdict
If we were reviewing Divine Fortune Megaways as a standalone game, we would not be conflicted at all. The graphics are great, and its special features are spectacular.
It is a blast to play. The medium variance makes it much more accessible. Not to mention its using the Megaways system, which is always great.
However, we also have to look at this as fans of the original. This new version has several huge improvements, but lacks the progressive jackpot. Not including it here was a huge missed opportunity.
That’s why we give this slot 4 out 5 stars.
